Tim Connelly has high hopes for Anthony Edwards' belief in the team.

It's certainly been an eventful past few days for the Minnesota Timberwolves and with one major deal they've made a change to the direction of their franchise that has ultimately raised more questions than answers, and one of those questions centers around their franchise's biggest star.

After the Timberwolves dealt away Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team trade that also involved the Chicago Bulls, they then made the move to lockdown Ayo Dosunmu in a multi-year extension, but they also sacrificed their 28th-overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft to essentially shed Randle's salary.

Now, without Randle or a first-round pick, there is a growing discussion about what Anthony Edwards' future with the franchise could be and if there's some growing discontent within the organization for the star.

What Are Some Red Flags for Edwards?

There could be several reasons that Edwards could feel unease in Minnesota, such as seeing his former teammate Karl-Anthony Towns win a championship with the New York Knicks just two seasons after being traded and the return for that trade, Randle, no longer with the team either.

On top of that, there were reports that the Timberwolves could have been suitors for Giannis Antetokounmpo if they had made a substantial offer, but Antetokounmpo instead made his way to the Miami Heat.

Any of those factors could give Edwards second thoughts as he enters his prime on a Timberwolves team that has gone to the Western Conference Finals twice in the last three seasons, but hasn't been able to make it all the way.

But according to Minnesota president of basketball operations Tim Connelly, Edwards not only understands the roster moves they've made, but is excited for what the future of the team can be.

Tim Connelly Makes Assurances

"I think he's super, super excited. There's been countless things we could have done. Our roster is pretty well thought of league-wide," Connelly said. "When you go to your leaders like Ant and you say, 'it takes get this to get that' and the conviction he has in our guys is evident when you say, 'no, we're not trading this guy.' So, I think the whole room's excited."

Minnesota had somewhat of a down year and finished as the sixth-seed in the Western Conference, but they still upset the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs before being eliminated by the San Antonio Spurs  and with a future of Dosunmu on the roster, Edwards could have reasons to be optimistic about the team as well.

Connelly acknowledged that Edwards is a competitor and that admission is a sign that Minnesota won't have forever to come up short when it comes to playoff success before Edwards will need to be placated, but at least for now, Edwards is happy with the direction of the team according to Connelly.
