The Minnesota Timberwolves were active at the NBA trade deadline, acquiring guard Ayo Dosunmu from the Chicago Bulls.

The Wolves traded Rob Dillingham, Leonard Miller, and four second round picks.

Mike Conley went to Chicago in a separate deal and was then moved to the Charlotte Hornets via Chicago. The Hornets then cut Conley, making him a free agent. He is set to rejoin the Timberwolves since they technically were not the last team he was part of.

The Timberwolves were also reportedly in discussions to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks, but how serious the Bucks were about moving Giannis ahead of the deadline has been debated.

Tim Connelly Speaks

Speaking to the media, Timberwolves President Tim Connelly said the team isn't done adding to its roster.

"Yeah, we're gonna add a couple a couple faces. We can go with 13 (players) for a couple weeks. We want the carnage of yesterday to settle and see who is out there, who is not out there. We have a couple guys in mind. I think we're gonna potentially see some familiar faces."

Connelly said it's a sprint after the All-Star break, and he is excited about where his team is heading into the break.

The Timberwolves are sixth in the West, 8.5 games back of the first-place Oklahoma City, but only four games back of the second-place San Antonio Spurs. Two games separated third from seventh in the West.

Buyout Market

As mentioned, Mike Conley is expected to rejoin the Timberwolves when the dust settles from the trade deadline and all transactions are made official.

Conley has been with the Wolves since 2023, when he was acquired from the Utah Jazz ahead of the trade deadline. In 44 games this season, he is averaging 4.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.9 assists.

Other potential buyout candidates include Chris Paul and Lonzo Ball. Cam Thomas has already been waived by the Brooklyn Nets.

By acquiring Dosunmu and bringing back Conley, the Wolves have shown a clear need for a secondary creator outside of Anthony Edwards.

Thomas has by far the best scoring punch and is averaging 15.6 points, but shooting just 39% from the field. His defense has also come into question.

Ball is a historically good defender, but has lost a step since undergoing knee surgery that cost him two full seasons. He's shooting just 30% from the field and 27% from three this year.

Paul has not played since December 1st, and didn't make much of an impact during his time with the Clippers, but is a veteran voice.
