The Timberwolves get have an underrated guard from Arkansas fall to them in the NBA Draft.
The Minnesota Timberwolves enter the 2026 season with holes to fill in their roster. The Timberwolves were able to make it past the first round of the playoffs, beating the Denver Nuggets 4-2, but losing to the San Antonio Spurs in the second round 4-2.
While there were many positives to take away from the Timberwolves' season, there were moments throughout the regular season and postseason that showed the team lacked depth at the guard spot and needed offensive stability from the frontcourt.
Jesse Johnson-Imagn ImagesAccording to NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Timberwolves could be in a position to upgrade their guard depth in the 2026 NBA Draft and take Arkansas guard Meleek Thomas.

The Timberwolves are in need of another guard who can bring energy to the team following the loss of Donte DiVincenzo to an Achilles injury. Ayo Dosunmu was a player off the bench who could take some pressure off Anthony Edwards, but without Divincenzo, he will likely see a bigger role if the Timberwolves re-sign him.
Thomas is a versatile guard who can play both guard positions and can create for himself offensively. In his freshman season at Arkansas, he played alongside Darius Acuff Jr., a top guard prospect in this year's draft, and saw a lot of individual and team success.
Nelson Chenault-Imagn ImagesThomas and Acuff were two of the leading scorers on an Arkansas team that made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament as the 4 seed. During March Madness, Meleek Thomas averaged 19 points per game and 2.7 steals. The Timberwolves are in need of a two-way guard, and Thomas can add solid defense and offense for them.
Despite playing with Acuff, a player who needs to have the ball in his hands to be productive, Thomas averaged over 15 points per game while shooting 41.6 percent from three-point range.
A notable game for Thomas in his freshman season was his 30-point game against Missouri in an 88-84 win in overtime. Thomas scored 30 points while shooting 5-6 from downtown and 10-23 from the field.
Nelson Chenault-Imagn ImagesMinnesota is in need of guards who can take pressure off Anthony Edwards on offense, and a play style like that can be a perfect fit for this team. The Timberwolves will likely bring back Ayo Dosunmu, who has shown the potential to be a reliable second option, but the bench will also need someone who can lead the way in scoring.
