A member of the Timberwolves front office believes the team can get over the hump with LaMelo Ball.

This offseason, one of the main priorities for the Minnesota Timberwolves was to find star player Anthony Edwards a reliable second option on offense. Minnesota has been able to make the postseason and make deep runs, but they are looking for a chance to compete in the Finals.

To fix the issue, the Timberwolves traded for Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball in exchange for Naz Reid and multiple draft picks. Ball was brought in to make the backcourt more dynamic, and his playmaking skills could elevate the roster as a whole.

LaMelo Ball averages over 7 assists for his career and put up a similar number of assists per game this past season. If he can keep up his play style of being someone who can take control of the offense while setting his teammates up for success, the Timberwolves could get over the hump in the postseason.

One team executive expressed similar sentiments, and he's excited about the future of this team after adding LaMelo Ball.

"This was kind of the big move we needed to make to take the next step. LaMelo is really going to help our offense to go to another level," the executive said.

A big reason as to why Ball could take this offense to the next level, the front office is hoping for, is his playmaking ability. The same team executive said that one priority was to take some playmaking responsibilities off Anthony Edwards.

"We also had to take some of the playmaking load off Ant (Anthony Edwards). We need him to fresher at the start of the playoffs. The best way to do that was to add more playmaking and we got one of the best playmakers in the game," the executive said.

How Much Better Does LaMelo Make the Timberwolves?

Last season, the starting point guard was Donte DiVincenzo. DiVincenzo was more of a score-first player than a playmaker like LaMelo Ball is. Still, the Timberwolves had a good season and made the playoffs, but their ceiling is much higher with Ball.

This move not only helps Anthony Edwards, but it also helps out other players who could break out offensively. Jaden McDaniels and Ayo Dosunmu are two starters who could have big seasons on offense thanks to LaMelo Ball's arrival.

Another player who could break out this season for Minnesota is Terrence Shannon Jr. Shannon is someone who could get out in fast-break situations and finish in the interior, similar to Miles Bridges, with whom LaMelo Ball had a great connection in Charlotte.

If Ball stays healthy and certain players hit their ceiling next season, the Timberwolves could make it as far as the Finals next season.
