The Timberwolves could add another piece after waiving Enrique Freeman.
As the season comes close to tipping off, NBA teams are starting to narrow down their rosters as training camp comes to an end. The Minnesota Timberwolves are no exception, as they recently waived forward Enrique Freeman. Freeman was on a two-way deal, leaving a spot for another play to have that contract.
Now the Timberwolves have some options, as they have the ability to sign another player right before their regular-season opener. This team's identity has been about playing with intensity on both ends of the court, and one player who could help them out is former San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks forward Jeremy Sochan.
Sochan has been known to be more of a glue guy for the teams he's been a part of in the past, but his on-court ability could fit the Timberwolves in a reserve role. This preseason, he spent time with the Portland Trail Blazers, but after being waived, he's looking for a new home.
David Gonzales-Imagn ImagesOverall, what the Timberwolves need is a player who solidifies their identity. If Minnesota can find a player who can come in and play with intensity on both ends of the floor, that would help them more than anything.
Another player who can potentially help is guard Rob Dillingham. Dillingham began his career with the Timberwolves before being traded to the Chicago Bulls in the middle of the 2025-2026 season.
Dillingham has since been traded from the Bulls and landed with the Charlotte Hornets before he was waived days after his arrival. While a reunion between both sides seems premature, it's not impossible, and the Timberwolves could make this deal work.
Robert Edwards-Imagn ImagesIf the Timberwolves' coaching staff can find a way to help him improve as an NBA-level guard, they could get a big return out of him. Minnesota has multiple veterans who can lead by example for Dillingham, and a two-way deal with the team could be exactly what he needs.
The Timberwolves will start their season soon, and with the team recently extending Jaden McDaniels for one more season, it leaves them with some momentum ahead of their opening game.
There are still many free agents who could find a role with the Timberwolves, and it will be interesting to see what their approach will be. This roster has a lot of versatility and players who can do different things, and it's hard to predict who Minnesota may sign to fill out their last spot.
