Takeaways from the Minnesota Timberwolves games against the Indiana Pacers.

The Minnesota Timberwolves dropped their preseason game against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday, falling 123-112.

Minnesota did play their starting lineup of LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, Rudy Gobert, and Jonathan Kuminga, leaving them on the floor for about 20 minutes each.

The Pacers also had their starting lineup on the floor, including the return of Tyrese Haliburton, who missed the entire 2025-26 season with an Achilles injury. The Pacers’ starters also played about 20 minutes each.

It’s preseason, but there were still plenty of positives and negatives to take away from what happened after the ball went up.

Winner - The Starters

The starters did what you wanted them to do during the preseason, and that’s win their minutes.

Ball, Edwards, and McDaniels had exceptional nights, especially from deep. McDaniels went 4-for-6, Edwards went 4-for-5, and Ball went 4-for-6 from three. Those kinds of nights aren’t going to happen every time on the floor, but it was an encouraging sign for the Timberwolves that all three looked comfortable and were getting the looks they wanted.

Loser - Jonathan Kuminga

While it was a great night for the starters, Jonathan Kuminga did struggle. He went 1-for-9 from the field and 0-for-3 from three. He was the only starter to show up as a minus in the box score, finishing as a -7.

Not the end of the world for Kuminga, but he’ll need to be better on the offensive end of the floor once the season starts. Or just shoot less from three.

Winner - Bones Hyland

Bones only played ten minutes, but he looked comfortable on the offensive end in those ten minutes. He had ten points and shot 3-for-6 from three. He was the only bench with a positive rating, finishing with a +2.

Bones can be inconsistent when he’s on the floor, so this was an encouraging sign for him once the season starts.

Loser - Jaylen Clark

The Timberwolves have a strong list of guards all fighting for playing time, and Clark failed to stand out in his limited minutes. While Hyland looked strong in his ten minutes, scoring ten points, Clark was invisible.

He didn’t register a shot, turned the ball over twice, and finished a team low -16.

The Timberwolves have Terrence Shannon Jr, Clark, Ayo Dosunmu, Bones, and Cody Williams all looking for backup minutes. Clark may have hurt his chances to be quick off the bench with this performance.
