Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations has high hopes after adding LaMelo Ball this offseason.

The Minnesota Timberwolves added former Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball in a trade that sent Naz Reid and multiple draft picks back to Charlotte. The Timberwolves have been looking for a reliable second option next to Anthony Edwards for years, and they may have found their answer.

In Ball's introductory press conference, Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly had high praise for him, saying Ball 'elevates' the roster.

LaMelo Ball has been known to be one of the most dynamic guards in the NBA since entering the league. Throughout his career, he's been a player who has averaged over 7 assists per game. He is someone who can get everyone in the lineup involved.

Ball has a chance to be the most talented point guard Anthony Edwards has played with up to this point in his career. Connelly said that he and Edwards have been talking about the recent move, and Edwards is 'excited and ready to get to work.'

How Far Can Minnesota Go With LaMelo?

The Timberwolves have cycled through multiple players to pair with Anthony Edwards as they've been looking to compete for an NBA Championship. Karl-Anthony Towns and Julius Randle have tried to play the role of a reliable second option, but Minnesota hasn't made it farther than the Western Conference Finals.

Not only does a player like LaMelo Ball help Anthony Edwards directly, but his presence also benefits the rest of the roster. Players like Jaden McDaniels and Ayo Dosunmu could be in for big individual seasons because of how dynamic of a player LaMelo is.

Last year, the Timberwolves had Mike Conley Jr. at point guard, and while he was a crafty playmaker, he didn't have the level of production LaMelo Ball has had. Conley was able to find open players with Minnesota, but what separates LaMelo from him is his ability to score.

Anthony Edwards is a player who sees a lot of double teams in games, but with the addition of Ball, that may slow down. LaMelo can create for himself and finish around the rim, something that could move the needle for Minnesota moving forward.

The Timberwolves have yet to have a truly dynamic offensive guard on their roster alongside Anthony Edwards, and LaMelo Ball could be the answer to their problems on offense. Minnesota will have a new look offensively, and this could be a much better and more consistent offense with a true floor general alongside Edwards.
