The Timberwolves could put together a trade package to acquire Anthony Davis.
This offseason, the Timberwolves will likely be in search of a reliable second option to get over the hump and compete for an NBA championship. In the past two playoffs, the Timberwolves have seen success, but one glaring issue has been that nobody has been able to step up for them when Anthony Edwards can't.
Minnesota traded for forward Julius Randle in 2024 to be that second option the team needed, but he has not been productive in big moments for them, and now it may be time for the franchise to look elsewhere to find help for Edwards.
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn ImagesOne player who could be on the way to Minnesota by trade is Wizards forward Anthony Davis. Bleacher Report recently put together a hypothetical trade package that had Minnesota sending Julius Randle and other players to Washington in exchange for Davis.
Minnesota would send Julius Randle, Donte Divincenzo, Joan Beringer, and the rights to the 28th overall pick in exchange for Anthony Davis from the Wizards.
How Much Could Anthony Davis Contribute to the Timberwolves?
Anthony Davis is 33 years old, and injuries have started to pile up at this stage of his career, but when he's healthy, Davis can still perform at a high level. In 2025-2026, Davis averaged 20.4 points per game, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in just 20 games played.
Rob Gray-Imagn ImagesDavis can still be a dominant presence in the paint, altering shots on defense, winning the rebound battles, and scoring close to the basket. He is also a capable shooter, making him a well-rounded big man.
Anthony Davis was also dealt a bad hand when it comes to where he has been placed since being traded from the Los Angeles Lakers.
Neither the Mavericks nor the Wizards were in a position to compete for a championship when he arrived there, and one can assume he's looking to get back to being a player who is competing for championships.
If he's paired with Anthony Edwards in Minnesota, he could get his spark back as a player, as he would be paired with one of the game's rising stars on a team with proven playoff success, ready to make a run.
Jesse Johnson-Imagn ImagesSince trading away Karl-Anthony Towns, the Timberwolves have been in search of a true second option, and Anthony Davis has experience as the second option on a championship team.
There are multiple veterans Minnesota can trade for to help out Anthony Edwards next season, and while it will be costly, the potential reward would make the effort to build the championship roster worth it.
