The Blazers added depth by signing high-energy wing Jaylen Martin to an Exhibit 10 deal, eyeing a potential G League spark as they refine their preseason rotation.

The Portland Trail Blazers add to an already busy few months of trades and roster movements, signing Jaylen Martin to a nonguaranteed Exhibit 10 contract on Wednesday.

With Martin's signing, Portland now has 20 players under contract, including 12 on guaranteed standard contracts and three on two-way deals.

The Blazers entered Wednesday with two open spots on their 21-player preseason roster, so a player did not have to be waived to open a roster spot for Martin. The Blazers' three two-way spots are already filled, so Martin sliding in would require the franchise to move other pieces around.

Martin will be attending camp this week with Portland. Although he is not expected to be on the 15-man roster come opening night, Martin will more than likely be assigned to the Rip City Remix, the Blazers G League affiliate.

Martin, 22, has spent the first few years of his professional career moving up and down from the G League to the pros.

After coming out of Overtime Elite in 2023, Martin has played for the Westchester Knicks, Long Island Nets, Delaware Blue Coats and Capital City Go-Go.

The 6-foot-6 wing is the prototypical high-energy wing. Martin gets downhill in a hurry and is scrappy on defense.

During the 2024-25 season, Martin appeared in 16 games in the NBA for the Brooklyn Nets and Washington Wizards, averaging 4.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists.

In the 2025-26 G League season with the Blue Coats, Martin put up 7.2 points a game over a 13-game sample size.

Martin signed with the Blazers after a solid showing during the summer league. With the Blazers in July, he averaged 9.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 5 games.

An Exhibit 10 deal gives Portland the flexibility to give Martin a bonus if he joins the Remix and stays for a specific period.

Martin is expected to be waived and join the Remix, where a stay of at least 60 days would trigger his Exhibit 10 bonus.

This move is a low-risk move to evaluate Martin. For Martin, it's an opportunity to prove he has enough talent and drive to secure a G League spot and possibly move up to Portland if he performs well or if the injury bug hits the Blazers at some point during the season.

His path to the opening-night roster is extremely tight. Assuming Martin does make the depth chart, he will be low on that list.

While Martin isn't expected to make any big jumps in the preseason, the Blazers' front office signs a proven G League player at a low-risk cost.
