Brandin Podziemski revealed what went wrong in the third quarter versus the Nuggets.
The Golden State Warriors took a quick one-game road trip to Ball Arena for a matchup with the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night, trying to earn their fourth-straight win after defeating the Mavericks, Nets, and Wizards earlier in the week.
However, there is one glaring difference between those three teams and the Nuggets: the latter is an actually competitive playoff team in the Western Conference, and thus, the shorthanded Warriors were simply no match.
Due to an explosive third quarter that saw the Nuggets go ahead for good behind a 40-21 frame, the Warriors fell, 116-93, and saw the 8th-seeded Clippers stretch their lead to 3 games as the Dubs try to claw their way back into a favorable spot in the Play-In.
Brandin Podziemski Reveals What Went Wrong
After the game, Brandin Podziemski answered what exactly went wrong in this game, stemming from some issues in the second quarter that bled into the big third-quarter loss.
"I think it had a lot to do with the second quarter down the stretch. We had three possessions where we turned it over, a couple of them in transition. Although it didn't result in points, I think it just gave them a little bit more confidence to hang around. And then third quarter, we turned the ball over a little too much. They hit some tough shots, too. Against a good team, when you're not at full strength on the road, you got to play pretty close to perfect, and we weren't that tonight."
In the game, the Warriors only ended up with 13 total turnovers, a pretty good total considering their four-game stretch of 21+ turnovers last week, but as Podziemski alluded to, it was the time and place of some of those turnovers that compounded into the Warriors' defeat.
Podziemski Extends 20+ Point Streak
In some positive news, Podziemski continued his excellent play. Despite being the lone Warrior to have played every single game this season, he has been showing no sign of fatigue as of late.
His 23-point performance, accompanied by 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals on 8-14 shooting from the field and 5-8 from three-point range, marked Podziemski's fourth-straight game with at least 20 points after he dropped 20, 22, and 22 against the Mavericks, Nets, and Wizards, respectively.
It's the first time in his career that Podziemski has scored 20+ points in four consecutive games, and though he still hasn't surpassed the 30-point mark in his career, much to the distress of certain parts of the Warriors' online fanbase thanks to an inside joke, it's clear that his scoring has been able to take a nice leap in year three with Steph Curry and other Warriors' leaders watching from the sidelines.
