Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander captured his second straight MVP award on Sunday, beating out Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama. 

The announcement was made on Amazon Prime Video ahead of game seven between the Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers. 

Unless you were on social media Sunday morning, then you may have seen the announcement from ESPN insider Shams Charania. Shams tweeted the news about Shai's impending MVP victory hours before the official announcement later in the evening. 

Amazon analyst Blake Griffin called out Shams for spoiling the news, saying it was Sunday and that he should go to brunch, calling him a nerd. 

Griffin wasn't the only player to call out Shams for his announcement, as Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green shared his thoughts on what Shams did on his podcast.

“It makes our league look like we have no organization. It makes our league look like it just makes it look that’s child’s play. We can’t hold the winner of the most prestigious individual award in the NBA? We can’t hold those results until like it’s actually time to be announced? That was a little disappointing," he said.

Draymond said that if the announcement was supposed to take place on Prime, then it should have taken place on Prime, and that commissioner Adam Silver should do something about it. 

Shams has defended his position, saying that it is his job to get news, vet it, and report it, and that he was just doing his job. 

Insiders giving out information before it hits the airways is nothing new, as NFL and NBA insiders have announced draft picks minutes before they are made on television for years. 

Shams was doing his job, though it's fair to wonder if he would have done this if ESPN had the game seven broadcast and they would have been the ones to announce the MVP award. 

The league hasn't issued any statement on the matter, nor are they likely to do so.

Those at Amazon Prime Video, for the hosts to the analysts, have the right to be upset that their announcement, which was billed as an exclusive, was stepped on hours earlier. 

Shams' tweet didn't ruin any moment as most figured Shai was going to win his second MVP, and Amazon still got the exclusive first interview with him before his press conference, but the league might not be thrilled that one media partner overstepped another.
