The Golden State Warriors picked up a big road win over the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night and Draymond Green found himself in the middle of one of the game's most entertaining moments when he got into a playful exchange with one of the NBA's most famous superfans.
During the third quarter, with the game tied at 62-62, Green stepped to the free-throw line and was met by the usual distraction tactics from 89-year-old Bruce Reznick, better known as Mr. Whammy.
The longtime Nets superfan is allowed by the team to stand behind the opposing team's basket during free throws, where he has been heckling visitors for decades.
Green appeared caught off guard at first when he saw Mr. Whammy get that close behind the basket, but the four-time NBA champion quickly fired back before draining his shots.
After the game, Green explained the exchange in his postgame interview and made it clear he enjoyed every second of it.
"I told him to sit his old ass down somewhere, man. Can't be distracting me on my free throws," Green told reporters. "That was fun. I had a lot of fun tonight."
The interaction was lighthearted, and both Green and Mr. Whammy seemed to enjoy the moment, with Green laughing and smiling during the exchange.
However, Mr. Whammy did get the last laugh on one occasion when he forced Green into a missed free throw later in the game.
Golden State came out sluggish and trailed by as many as 13 points in the first quarter, but the Warriors turned things around and pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 120-107 victory.
Stephen Curry led the way with 27 points on 8-for-15 shooting while adding six assists, and Jimmy Butler added 21 points while going 11-for-12 from the free-throw line.
Green finished the night with seven points, five rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal on 1-for-3 shooting and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe.
He was on the court for many of the Warriors' key stretches as Golden State outscored Brooklyn 31-22 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
With the victory, the Warriors improved to 17-16 on the season and sit eighth in the Western Conference standings.
The Nets dropped to 10-20 and saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. Michael Porter Jr. led Brooklyn with 27 points while rookie Egor Demin added 23 in the loss.
Golden State will continue their road trip when they visit the Charlotte Hornets on New Year's Eve, while Brooklyn hosts the Houston Rockets on New Year's Day.
