Yaxel Lendeborg made a statement against Denver.

Through the first four games of the regular season, Golden State Warriors rookie forward Yaxel Lendeborg has shown glimpses of the kind of player that he can be, but in Monday's 134-114 win over the Denver Nuggets, it feels like he's truly arrived.

Lendeborg led the Warriros with 31 points while shooting 9-19 from the field while adding 12 rebounds and six assists in total dominance of the Nuggets and if there was any doubt about the 24-year-old former NCAA champion's ability to adapt to the NBA, that was firmly dispelled.

He went toe-to-toe with one of the best front court duos in the NBA in Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and forward Aaron Gordon and didn't budge an inch, displaying an uncanny ability to draw fouls, leading to a 12-13 performance from the free throw line, and showcasing encouraging aggressiveness from three point range, even if he went 1-8.

Thriving Despite Inexperience

He still has a lot to learn and is only just a handful of games into his career, but the fact that he's so inexperienced and still was able to takeover the game is what stood out the most to his teammate and mentor forward Draymond Green.

"He’s able to impose his will on the game. I don’t care what age you are, it’s the NBA. If you don’t know the NBA game, you’re already at a deficit," Green said (via Warriors). "To have the ability to go out there and still do that, not knowing what the NBA truly brings every single night, is special. He’s a special player."

The Warriors took a major risk by drafting Lendeborg 11th-overall in the 2026 NBA Draft considering his age, but that was an intentional move. The Warriors drafted him with the expectation that he would be ready to go right away, considering his age and the leadership he showed while playing for Michigan in the NCAA.

Meeting Challenges

So far, they've stayed true to that expectation, thrusting him straight away into a starting role. In that role, Lendeborg challenged stars like Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic and has now shown he can outclass NBA veterans like the Nuggets boast on their roster.

Rising to those challenges while still finding his footing in the league is an impressive endorsement of who Lendeborg can be as a player and from what he's show so far, the ceiling is high for what he can be as a player.

By all accounts, the Warriors were right to put their faith in Lendeborg as a starting rookie and if the first three games of the season were his introduction to the league, Monday's dominance was his arrival.

Every game will represent a new challenge for Lendeborg, but he's shown what he can do while playing through the fire and with even more opportunities ahead of him, the best seems like it is yet to come.
