In 2012, the Golden State Warriors drafted Draymond Green with the 35th overall pick. Since then, Green has been a four-time NBA Champion and the 2016-2017 NBA Defensive Player of the Year. 

After missing out on the playoffs thanks to a play-in tournament exit at the hands of the Phoenix Suns, the Warriors are now in a position where changes to the franchise are imminent.

They re-signed head coach Steve Kerr to a two-year extension, but franchise cornerstone Stephen Curry is entering the last season of his contract. As for Draymond Green, he will likely come back on his player option, but he too will be in his last season. 

The Warriors have tried to stay afloat and compete for a championship by integrating different veterans into the team, but their championship window has likely passed them by. 

Draymond Green was recently asked about his time with Golden State up to this point, acknowledging that his time with the franchise could be nearing an end, but he is grateful for how it has turned out. 

“If it was the last ride, I look back on it, man, with such gratitude because, yes, we won championships. It’s great. But the journey was so special. What we were able to accomplish was so special,” Green Said. 

Draymond was also grateful for the fact that all of his success came with one team. "I look back on being able to do it all in one place, and I’m just like, ‘Wow. What a run. What a time it’s been,'” he said.

Draymond Green has made it clear this offseason that the Warriors' goal is to still compete at the highest level they can. He has acknowledged that winning a championship will be a challenge because of injuries to Jimmy Butler III and Moses Moody, but it goes further than that for him. 

Green has expressed the importance of establishing a winning standard in the locker room, and he hopes it will stay that way once he leaves the organization. 

In terms of where the Warriors are as a franchise, things may change for them quickly. There have been rumors that they could trade Jimmy Butler III away due to his injury and because he takes up the bulk of the cap space. 

Golden State also holds the 11th overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. The franchise could be heading in a direction where it could continue to collect assets to help with an eventual rebuild. 

The Warriors will have a healthy mix of veterans and young players next season, but what happens after 20262-2027 is up in the air.
