Draymond Green Reveals Thoughts on His Current Focus Level cover image

Draymond Green revealed his thoughts on both his and the Warriors' current focus level.

On Wednesday night, the Golden State Warriors improved to 7-3 in their last 10 games, getting back to two games above .500 with a 120-1113 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.

The team as a whole has seemed to settle into their roles, for the most part, with Steph Curry leading the charge. Outside of the lone game he sat out against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Curry has led the team in scoring in all nine of the other games in this stretch.

Draymond Green Reflects On Warriors' Focus

After Wednesday's win, Draymond Green was asked for his thoughts about Curry's feeling that the Warriors' focus is collectively on point.

"I definitely agree. You're just starting to see it on both ends. We're starting to connect the game. Our turnover are starting to be a good thing, not necessarily a bad thing. We're rebounding the ball pretty well. Those are focus things. You give up boxouts, you turn the ball over (with careless passes), those are all focus things and I think we're doing a much better job of focusing on the task at hand, understanding the game plan, and executing it."

Green also discussed the trust Steve Kerr places in him as a playmaker and how he approaches minimizing turnovers.

"Just taking less chances. Coach (Kerr) came to me and he was just like, ‘We’re going to keep putting the ball in your hand but you have a responsibility to take care of it and we’re not the team that we used to be where you can kind of take those chances’. The league has changed, teams feast off those turnovers. So we just try to take less chances than I was taking. I heard it, took it to heart."

"Overall just trying to focus in on everything, not just the turnovers, just myself, this team, what’s going well, what’s not going well, trying to figure out things to be the player I can be for this team, the leader I can be for this team. So it’s definitely a concerted effort.”

Turnovers were the bane of the Warriors' existence in a few losses this year, but those numbers have been under control as of late.

Green Shores Up Ball Security

Green, in particular, plays a big role in the ebb and flow of the Warriors' turnovers. As he said, Kerr often trusts Green to both handle the ball and make a lot of passes within the offense, which naturally leads to him being a turnover-prone player.

However, Green has been able to keep those numbers down over the past few games. His assist-to-turnover ratio has more than doubled in the past few games, and it's shown in how effective the ball movement is within the Warriors' offense.

Green is an integral part of the Warriors for his IQ, defense, and playmaking, even if his jumpshot or athleticism have declined over the years. If he can continue to limit his turnovers and play connected basketball with Curry and the rest of the Warriors' scorers, they'll be in a good position to turn the corner on the season.
