Draymond Green's days in Golden State are limited, but he could be given another year with the franchise next season.
The Warriors are at a point where veterans like Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are nearing the end of their time with the franchise. Golden State has had its ups and downs since winning the NBA Championship in 2022, and after a year in which the team missed the playoffs, the direction could be changing.
The Warriors hold the 11th overall pick in this year's NBA Draft, and with Stephen Curry entering the last season of his deal and Draymond Green having a player option, this could be the last season where the duo will be together.
Green has been a player who has been rumored to be shopped around in the trade market in the past, and if he signs his player option, it could tempt the Warriors to trade him again.
While the $27.6 million Green would be getting could be useful to match other contracts, the Warriors could have a hard time finding a team that's willing to pay Draymond that amount. This means his future with the franchise could be secure for at least one more season.
How Can Draymond Help The Warriors Next Season?
Statistically, Draymond Green's impact doesn't jump out like it used to. He's coming off a season in which he averaged 8.4 points per game, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists. Many would consider Green's best trait is his chemistry with Stephen Curry.
Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn ImagesHead coach Steve Kerr still draws up plays that involve Draymond Green and Stephen Curry working together to score. These are two players who have played 14 seasons together, and now that they are older, they serve as veteran voices for a younger Warriors Roster.
Through much of this past season, we have seen Green be a vocal leader during Warriors timeouts, and he has built a strong relationship with key players like Brandin Podziemski and Moses Moody.
The way Draymond Green can maximize his contributions to the Warriors this next season is by continuing to be that leader alongside Stephen Curry. Green has mentioned in the past that he would like to establish a positive winning culture to set up the franchise after he leaves, and this is one way to do it.
Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn ImagesIf the Warriors want to be competitive and make the playoffs, multiple roster changes will have to be made. Jimmy Butler III and Moses Moody are expected to miss significant time next season, and those are two players who take up a bulk of the salary cap. Golden State will need veteran leadership moving forward, and Draymond Green should prioritize that.
