Draymond Green showed love to Steve Kerr amid their uncertain future.

Draymond Green and Steve Kerr have been together for 12 long years with the Golden State Warriors. Though neither was ever really considered the face or the catalyst of the Warriors' dynasty, thanks to Steph Curry and a couple of years of Kevin Durant, the impact the pair has had on the team and the city is undeniable.

However, with Kerr's role as the Warriors' coach not fully secure following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, there is an air of uncertainty about the direction of the franchise. Will they part ways with a franchise legend and try to spark a new beginning with Curry and Green as the lone remnants of the old dynasty?

Green Shows Love To Kerr, But Also Remains Realistic

On his podcast, The Draymond Green Show, Green made sure to show love to Kerr amidst all of these swirling rumors.

"There's several times this year where I thought about quitting, and each time, he'd just say the right thing to relight that fire and make me want to go again ... that's a special coach. When you come into a season expecting to compete for a championship, and it goes the way that it's going for us, good luck trying to keep that together. So many coaches you see get fired because they just can't hold it together. Steve Kerr's a master at that ... Still to this day, the way you get amazed by Steph Curry's shots or the way some is amazed by my defense is how I get amazed by his coaching when all the money is on the line."

However, despite this emphatic backing of Kerr, Green was also realistic in understanding the scenario the Warriors are in and how the NBA operates.

"I've never been so uncertain since early in my career on what happens next. But I'm truly at a loss now because you just don't know what direction will be what. Steph, myself, Steve shared a moment in what could be our last time playing with Steve as our coach. I'm happy we got to share that moment. He didn't miss the moment. I hope he's our coach next year. You want my opinion, I think not. Just because it just feels like that. It felt like that was it. I also hope I'm on this team next year, we also don't know that. Man, if it was, what a run it's been. So lucky to have had, for 12 years, Steve as my coach. We shall see. I don't know. Just got to stay ready for whatever it is and roll with the punches."

Kerr Truly Unlocked Green's Potential

When Green came into the league as a second-round pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, he was the reigning Big Ten Player of the Year at Michigan State and was seen as a good "glue guy" that could impact the game in many ways offensively thanks to his solid combination of shooting, finishing, and playmaking.

However, the Warriors tried employing him largely as a small forward or stretch four in the early years of his career, due to Green's 6-foot-7 stature lending him more to small forward positioning, rather than power forward.

In addition, some scouting reports were actually low on his defensive potential, projecting that his lack of size and speed might make him a liability as a "tweener" between being able to guard quicker wings and stronger bigs.

It wasn't until Kerr came along and implemented his systems that Green's potential was really shown as an elite defender and one of the best big man playmakers ever. With the constantly-moving offense that Kerr wanted to run, it highlighted Green's playmaking IQ and created that elite synergy between him and Curry that is so potent to this day.

On defense, Green got to show off his chops as a help defender, and ultimately blossomed into one of the best all-around defenders ever in due time.

Ultimately, Green and Kerr have had a symbiotic relationship all the way through. There's no doubt the impact they had on each other's careers and the Warriors as a franchise will be legendary forever.
