NBA fans might've been hoping for the Golden State Warriors to make a major move before Thursday afternoon's deadline for someone like Giannis Antetokounmpo, but the team settled on Atlanta Hawks center Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis has been dealing with health issues this season, so his debut is to be determined.
Regardless, the team must pivot its focus to Thursday night's contest, as they travel to Phoenix to face the Suns for the fourth and final time this season. It's been rather close contests in each outing, with Golden State holding the 2-1 series advantage as they look to take down their Pacific Division opponent without several key players.
The Warriors will be without several players on Thursday, including Stephen Curry (patellofemoral), Seth Curry (sciatic nerve), and Jimmy Butler (ACL). In addition, they will also be without Buddy Hield, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Jonathan Kuminga, as all three were traded on Wednesday night.
Hield and Kuminga were sent to the Hawks for Porzingis, while Jackson-Davis was sent to the Toronto Raptors for a 2026 second-round pick via the Los Angeles Lakers. Kuminga was the longest tenured Warrior of the three, being selected seventh overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, with Jackson-Davis being selected 57th overall in 2023.
Without three of their top scorers on Thursday, the Warriors will look to Brandin Podziemski, De'Anthony Melton, and Moses Moody to do the heavy-lifting offensively.
The only other name listed is LJ Cryer, as he's QUESTIONABLE due to left hamstring injury management.
Phoenix's injury report is small, but has two key players listed.
Jalen Green is listed as QUESTIONABLE with a right hamstring and left hip injury. The former second-overall pick has appeared in just five games this season, averaging 11.6 points. However, he's been on a minutes restriction in all five, so the Suns haven't really seen what Green can provide for them yet.
The other player listed is Devin Booker, as the All-Star guard is listed as OUT with a right ankle sprain. He last played on January 23rd, but has been strong this season, averaging 25.4 points and 6.2 assists.
Following the pair of trades Golden State made on Wednesday night, it will be interesting to see how focused the team is for their matchup against Phoenix.
The Western Conference standings are tight, and a win will push Golden State closer to the mix of the teams in range of the third to seventh seed.
Tip-off at the Mortgage Matchup Center is set for 10:00 p.m. EST.
