Kendrick Perkins isn't a believer in the Golden State Warriors.
The Golden State Warriors have had a loud offseason in terms of chatter, but a quiet offseason in terms of what has gotten done.
The Warriors re-signed Draymond Green, who opted out of his player option to try to help the team spend elsewhere, but ultimately re-signed for the same $27.6 million that his player option was worth.
They also re-signed Gary Payton II, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, and De'Anthony Melton. They did lose Quinten Post to an offer sheet courtesy of the Memphis Grizzlies, opting not to match the deal.
The team was heavily linked to LeBron James, who was an unrestricted free agent, but he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. They were also reportedly in talks to trade for Jaylen Brown and Anthony Davis, but neither deal materialized.
Kendrick Perkins Doesn't Buy Golden State
In breaking down the Golden State roster on ESPN, former NBA Champion Kendrick Perkins said about the team, "It's either championship or bust... Steph Curry wants to win a championship. Is this a championship roster? Absolutely not... The Warriors know it's time to upgrade."
ESPN lists the Warriors starters as Steph Curry, Brandin Podziemski, Yaxel Lendeborg, Draymond Green, and Kristaps Porzingis.
Lendeborg will turn 24 in September and is a highly-touted rookie out of Michigan who plays an all-around game on both ends of the floor. He's the only new addition to the team.
The other four are returning players from last year's team, and the depth behind them, which includes Payton, Will Richard, Melton, and Gui Santos, are also returning players.
Is Perkins Right?
The Warriors were a 10th seed last season, winning the first Play-In game against the Los Angeles Clippers, but losing the second Play-In game against the Phoenix Suns to ultimately miss the playoffs.
They are effectively running back the same 10th seed team as last year, but hoping for better health and that Lendeborg can be the contributor that most believe he can be.
They will be without Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody to start the season, two of their top six players.
On paper, it's not a championship roster given their age and the injury history of Curry and Porzingis. The hope for the Warriors is that they can float in a playoff position until the trade deadline, where they either make a swing or get Butler back in hopes of him being as impactful as he's been in the past despite coming off an ACL injury.
