Kristaps Porzinigs set a target date for his Warriors debut.

The Golden State Warriors have two games remaining before the All-Star Break, and while those are important, the first game coming out of the break is shaping up to be one of the more anticipated games of the season, thanks to the two injuries the Warriors are waiting on.

Steph Curry's runner's knee issue is likely set to hold him out until after the All-Star break, but the main portion of excitement comes from the newest Warrior: Kristaps Porzingis.

Porzingis was acquired the night before the trade deadline in exchange for Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield, but isn't yet ready to make his Warriors debut due to Achilles tendinitis. The 7-foot-2 big man is set to add a new dimension to the Warriors' offense and defense once he sees his first minutes.

Porzingis Sets Target Debut Date

In Porzingis's first press conference with the media as a member of the Warriors, he was optimistic about his return from injury and affirmed he was targeting the first game after the All-Star break as his debut game.

He has been working with Rick Celebrini and the rest of the Warriors' medical/training staff to prepare him for his debut, maintaining a positive outlook on his overall health and readiness to play.

"48 (minutes) straight," Porzingis said with a laugh when he was asked how many minutes he's expecting to play in his first few games.

"We'll see what the medical staff thinks for me, but as I said, I want to hit the ground running."

Porzingis averaged 24.3 minutes per game in the 17 games he played with the Hawks earlier this season, but was obviously hampered by injury or illness in between many games. His best game, however, came when he played over 30 minutes, scoring 30 points with 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocks in 33 minutes.

How Does Porzingis Slide Into The Big Man Rotation?

As long as Porzingis is healthy, he will more than likely slot into the starting center position next to Draymond Green. Though Quinten Post is a 7-footer, the Warriors have never quite had a big man with the height, length, and overall skill of Porzingis at their center position.

The rim protection of Porzingis, combined with the switchability and overall defensive IQ of Green, is a pairing that probably has Steve Kerr jumping for joy. You'd have to go back to Andrew Bogut to find a truly capable defensive anchor playing center for the Warriors — Bogut, of course, helped the Warriors win the 2015 NBA Championship and secure the 73-9 regular season record.

Pushing Al Horford and Post to bench roles should, ideally, make things work for all four big men, too. Horford and Porzingis need their minutes regulated due to their age and injury history, respectively, but have also clearly shown they work well together during their time in Boston.

Kerr now has access to a variety of double big options, not to mention a new big man to stick alongside his smaller lineups.

Porzingis' arrival marks a new roster and new possibilities for the remainder of the Warriors' season. If he can remain healthy, it'll be an exciting thing to see.
