On Tuesday night, the Golden State Warriors will close out their five-game homestand against the best team in the NBA: the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 11-10 Warriors will welcome the 20-1 Thunder, who have been cruising all season and could be the team to threaten the 2015-16 Warriors' 73-9 record.
It's going to be a difficult game for the Warriors to win, and the lengthy injury reports from both sides complicate game plans and projections.
Despite having Sunday and Monday off following a Saturday night win against the New Orleans Pelicans, the Warriors' injury report was extensive, to say the least.
The most notable name on the list is obviously Steph Curry, who, as expected, is listed out with the left quad contusion that he suffered last Wednesday against the Houston Rockets. Curry is set to be reevaluated sometime within the next week to see when he will be able to return to the court.
Alongside Curry, Al Horford also remains out with the sciatic injury that has kept him on the bench for the past three games. De'Anthony Melton was also listed as out, though the guard has been practicing in his return from an ACL injury and is reportedly expected to make his season debut sometime this week.
Most important for this game was the appearances of Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green. Butler took a hard fall on Saturday and is officially listed as questionable for the game with that contusion. Green is listed as probable with a right foot sprain.
Without either player — especially Butler, who led the Warriors on Saturday with 24 points and 10 assists — it would make an already tough matchup even more of an uphill battle.
One thing to look out for that wasn't included on the injury report is the debut of Seth Curry. Steve Kerr said Curry would be available for this game, even though he just officially signed on Monday. Especially with some of these injuries, Curry will likely slot right into the lineup for some shooting punch.
Despite all the injuries on the Warriors' side, the Thunder aren't the picture of health, either.
Importantly, three starter-level players for OKC are set to miss Tuesday's game: Alex Caruso, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Luguentz Dort.
Caruso will miss his second-straight game with a sore right quad, while Hartenstein will be forced to sit out his third-straight game with a strain in his right calf. Dort is the surprising listing with an adductor strain, as he's played in eight consecutive games since returning from an injury in early November.
The Thunder have been dealing with a multitude of injuries all throughout the season, though. With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander still at the helm, missing three players isn't anything that will faze them.
The Warriors will have their work cut out for them, especially if Butler or Green end up missing the game. It would be a massive upset if the Warriors could cap off their homestand with an emphatic victory over the Thunder.
