Curry battled an illness during a crucial Warriors win.

The Golden State Warriors have been one of the early surprises of the season, with a 5-3 record through their first eight games.

However, their upcoming matchup against the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night faces a major concern as star guard Stephen Curry battles an illness that worsened following Tuesday's victory over the Phoenix Suns.

Coming off a much-needed 118-107 win over Phoenix at Chase Center on November 4th, the Warriors snapped a two-game losing streak that had seen them fall to both the Milwaukee Bucks and Indiana Pacers on a difficult Midwest road trip.

The victory improved Golden State to 5-3 on the season, but it came at a cost, as Curry played through a lingering cold that had been bothering him for several days.

    Curry's Health Status After Win

Curry led the Warriors with 28 points in the win over Phoenix, adding four rebounds, three assists, and five three-pointers in 34 minutes of action.

However, his postgame press conference made it clear that the four-time NBA champion was struggling with his health.

"Yeah I'll be alright though. Just need a day to kick it to the curb and get back to full strength," Curry said between sniffles. "I was good enough to get through tonight but it's getting worse so I won't stand too close, far away from you all. Obviously it would take a lot for me not to play but with the way it's going, and how the schedule's been, and just how I feel, obviously we'll monitor it and see how it goes but I want to be 100% for the long term."

Despite the veteran point guard's willingness to push through, head coach Steve Kerr made the executive decision to rest his superstar for Wednesday's game in Sacramento. "He's wiped out right now, so I don't care what the doctors say, we gotta get him some rest," Kerr announced immediately following Tuesday's victory. "I'll make the decision right now — he's not going to play tomorrow."

Warriors Rebound After Tough Road Losses

The win over Phoenix was crucial for Golden State, after its strong 4-1 start was derailed by consecutive losses. The Warriors dropped games in Milwaukee and Indianapolis, with Curry struggling in both contests.

Over those two losses, the 37-year-old guard shot just 38.1 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from three-point range while committing five turnovers in each game.

The Warriors will need contributions from their supporting cast against Sacramento. Moses Moody, who scored 24 points off the bench against Phoenix, is likely to see an expanded role.

Brandin Podziemski, who added 13 points Tuesday night, will likely handle more on-ball responsibilities without Curry available.

The Warriors and Kings are set to tip off at 10:00 PM ET at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
