Steph Curry speaks about his future with the Golden State Warriors.
At the age of 38 and with 17 seasons in the league, Steph Curry is closer to the end of his career than the beginning, but he is still operating at a high level.
Curry was limited to just 43 games this past season due to injuries, but still looked like the Steph Curry that fans have grown to love when he was on the court. Curry averaged 26.6 points, his highest average in the past three seasons, while shooting 46% from the field and 39% from three.
Though Curry still plays at a high level, the Warriors haven't found the team success that fans have grown accustomed to, failing to make the playoffs this past season after losing the second play-in game to the Phoenix Suns.
Since winning the NBA Championship in 2022, the Warriors have won just two playoff series and outright missed the playoffs twice.
Steph Curry Addresses His Future
Speaking to Tim Kawakami, Curry said about his future, “You don’t want to be in a situation the Lakers were in those last three years with Kobe. I know he came off the Achilles injury, but… they were a lottery team, and it was more just how many points can Kobe score down the stretch of his career. I don’t want to be in that scenario.”
The Lakers missed the playoffs in Kobe's last three seasons. He suffered an Achillies injury in 2013-14, limiting him to just six games. He returned next season, but played only 35 games. He played 66 games in his final season, but the Lakers won just 17 games.
Kobe averaged 17.6 points in his final season, but gave fans a moment that will live forever in his final game when he scored 60 points.
Warriors Looking To Make Moves
The Warriors have tried to remain competitive as Curry has aged, looking to make big splashes and succeeding on some. The team acquired Jimmy Butler at the 2025 NBA trade deadline, but an ACL injury derailed his and the Warriors season in 2026. They attempted to acquire Paul George before he ultimately signed with Philadelphia in the 2024 offseason and tried to bring back Kevin Durant at the 2025 deadline before shifting their attention to Butler.
They are now rumored to be interested in Giannis Antetokounmpo, who they had interest in this past trade deadline.
Steve Kerr signed a two-year extension with the Warriors, and has said he'll continue to be around as long as Curry is playing.
