Steph Curry continued to make NBA history in the Warriors' win on Christmas Day over the Mavericks.

Christmas time means celebration around the world, and nowhere was that more true than in San Francisco this year. After losing the past two years on Christmas to the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers, the Golden State Warriors were looking to imbue some holiday spirit back into Chase Center with this year's matchup against the Dallas Mavericks.

Behind an incredible team effort, the Warriors were able to comfortably hold onto a lead for the final 44 minutes of the game and eventually came away with a 126-116 victory.

Steph Curry Continues To Make NBA History#

Despite all of the festivities, today was perhaps one of apprehension for fans of Steph Curry. The two-time MVP has performed poorly in his previous 11 appearances Christmas appearances, averaging just 17.6 points on 35% from the field and 28% from three-point range.

In fact, Curry's only scored more than 20 points three times, although he most recently did so with a Christmas-high 38 last year in the Warriors' loss to the Lakers.

Though he didn't shoot well once again, going 6-18 from the field and 2-10 from three, Curry still managed to make NBA history early in the third quarter, becoming the 22nd player to reach the 26,000 point mark.

Besides the four other active players to achieve this total — LeBron James, Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook — Curry joins the company comprised solely of Hall of Famers.

With the 23 points he scored on Thursday, Curry now finds himself just 60 points behind Kevin Garnett for No. 21 on the all-time points leaderboard, and 384 points away from surpassing John Havlicek to crack into the top-20.

Holiday Cheer Spread Throughout The Team#

Even with Curry's poor shooting performance, the rest of the Dubs made sure to pick up the slack to bring home the victory, as the Warriors put on one of their best team performances of the season.

An astounding 7 players finished in double figures, and every player who touched the court contributed at least 5 points in the win. The bench, in particular, was excellent, scoring 64 of the Warriors' 126 points — over half of the total. Led by De'Anthony Melton's 16 points and Al Horford's 14 points in his return to action after missing 11 of the last 12 games, the Warriors were excellent even as Curry and Jimmy Butler struggled to find their footing offensively.

It was a hot start for Golden State in this one. They scored 71 points in the first half, the second-highest total all year, and the 90 points they had through three quarters clocked as the third-most this season.

They got some help in the form of Mavericks star Anthony Davis exiting the game after playing just 11 minutes with a groin injury, but were overall outstanding in multiple departments. In particular, the Warriors had one of their best games in terms of ball movement, recording 33 assists to just 11 turnovers.

The win also pushed the Warriors back over .500 on the season at 16-15 and marked their second three-game win streak of the year. The Warriors will get two days off to enjoy the holidays and their win before heading north to face the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.
