Steve Kerr Addresses Jimmy Butler’s Hard Fall vs Pelicans cover image

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had a lighthearted update on Jimmy Butler III's condition

The Golden State Warriors earned a secure 104-96 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans Saturday night to improve their record to 11-10, but the win wasn't without its scary moments.

Jimmy Butler III suffered a scary fall late in the second quarter that had Warriors fans everywhere holding their breath. Butler III went up for a layup, and while airborne, Micah Peavy of the Pelicans swooped under Butler III's legs and sent him careening toward the ground. He felt flat on the court, straight on his hip, while Peavy was called for a flagrant foul.

Butler was clearly hurt, but remained in the game. When Golden State head coach Steve Kerr spoke on Butler's condition after the game, he shared a humorous conversation between the two. But even underneath the levity, it revealed an inside look at how Butler III is feeling.

"He'll Be Sore Tomorrow"

“I’m sure he’ll be sore tomorrow. I asked him when it happened, and I said ‘What hurts?’ And he said ‘everything’, I said ‘me too, but I’m 60. I’m supposed to be hurting," Kerr said (via 95.7 The Game).

The fall that Butler III suffered was a frightening sight for a number of reasons. First off, no team wants to see one of their stars go down the way that Butler III did. But beyond that, his injury history makes the prospect of another injury all the more stressful.

Butler III has played in 19 of 21 games for the Warriors this season, an improvement on his track record from the past, and something the Warriors will want to keep up.

How Butler Can Take Over A Game

Another reason that the Warriors want to keep Butler III on the court and avoid potential injuries like his Saturday night fall is the way that he can contribute on the court. He led the Warriors in points in the win with 24 and empowered the rest of his team to fire up on the court as well.

Butler III has an ability to overwhelm opponents and find ways to contribute, even under pressure, and Golden State will need him to stay on the court to ensure the team's future success.

"He was incredible the way he took over the game. I thought we got a lot of great performances," Kerr said. "The key was taking care of the ball. Just allowing ourselves to control the game, or keep it under control, not let it get away from us. Even when they took the lead we weren't really making mistakes and we gave ourselves a chance for Jimmy to take over and guys to make big shots.”
