The Golden State Warriors have struggled this season, and that's been for multiple reasons. From injuries to inconsistent play, Golden State sits at just 13-14 with a pair of losses in its past two games, despite getting 87 combined points from Steph Curry in the last two games. However, the team could be looking to find some consistency soon.
Over the offseason, the Warriors brought in Al Horford, hoping that the veteran center could fill the void in the starting lineup, giving them a high-IQ player who could impact on both ends of the floor. Unfortunately, he's been far from that this season, and now Steve Kerr seems to be settling in on a different starting lineup.
Barring any unforeseen injuries, Steve Kerr said that the team's new starting five going forward will feature Steph Curry, Moses Moody, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, and Quinten Post. After an impressive rookie season, Post has looked improved in his second year, while Moody earns the nod over several other options next to Curry in the backcourt.
Dating back to last season, Golden State saw a lot of success with a similar lineup, but subbing in Brandin Podziemski for Post. Unfortunately, it's been a rough start to the season for Podziemski, even though his numbers have improved in December.
As for Moody, he earned his spot with the Warriors down the stretch last season and continues to bring quality defense and efficient three-point shooting to the lineup. While his draft classmate, Jonathan Kuminga, isn't having the same success, the Warriors have at least hit on one of their 2021 picks to become a long-term option.
In terms of who else could've had a case for the starting lineup, Podziemski, Will Richard, and De'Anthony Melton. As mentioned earlier, Podziemski has been sporadic with Golden State this season, with Richard not being in the rotation as of late and Melton still getting his feet under him.
The biggest player affected is Jonathan Kuminga, as it seems more likely that he'll be moved before the February 5th trade deadline. Despite a strong start to the year that made it seem like he had a starting role locked in, an injury and loss of role have bumped him down the depth chart.
Regardless of who starts the game, the whole team has to produce at the end of the day. Golden State returns to action on Thursday when they face off against the Phoenix Suns at 9:00 p.m. EST.
