Steve Kerr's connection with Golden State runs deep.
Steve Kerr is staying with the Golden State Warriors after signing a two-year, $35 million extension to stay at the helm of the only team that he's ever known as a head coach.
The Warriors, especially as they're remembered today, and Kerr are deeply and forever linked. The dominant dynasty of the mid 2010's led by Steph Curry and Draymond Green were defined just as much by those franchise players as they were by the leadership of Kerr.
That dynasty may be a memory now with Curry and Green nearing the end of their careers and the Warriors a somewhat-struggling team that was eliminated during the Play-In tournament this season, but that doesn't mean there's any other place in the league that Kerr would rather be.

Rebilas-Imagn ImagesAfter this season, Kerr's future in Golden State was in question for the first time in a long time, but his extension put all of that apprehension to bed and for Kerr, it was the words of his wife that helped remind him how much the franchise means to him.
Kerr Finds His "Want" With Warriors
“My wife said, ‘You might coach again someday, but you'll never coach the Warriors again,’ and that was really meaningful because I love this team, I love our players, and that struck me. I couldn't imagine walking away from the Warriors," Kerr said (via Warriors).
Admittedly, the Warriors do have a lot of work to do to become truly competitive again, especially with the way that the Western Conference around them is improving.
That itself compounds the desperation that Warriors ownership is feeling in regard to restoring the Warriors to dominance and winning at least one more time with the old core.

When it comes to Kerr's coaching career, the Warriors have defined him.

He had an extensive playing career, namely playing with the Chicago Bulls alongside Michael Jordan and Scotty Pippen and under head coach Phil Jackson, but after his playing days were done he worked as both a broadcaster and in front offices, but never coaching.
That was until Kerr signed on as head coach of the Warriors in 2014, and from there he rest is history.

An era may be in the process of ending, but it's not there yet and Kerr is staying on to make sure that era keeps going just a bit longer.
