The Golden State Warriors have lost six of their last eight games and are below .500 a month into the season.

They have been without their future Hall-of-Famer and all-time career leader in three-pointers in Stephen Curry for three consecutive contests and just lost a one-point, late-game barn-burner to the Philadelphia 76ers on Dec. 4.

The last shot the Warriors attempted, which was ultimately blocked by Tyrese Maxey – who was responsible for 35 of the 76ers’ 99 points – felt like a microcosm of the struggles Golden State has endured to begin the 2025-26 NBA season.

However, even with more lows than highs as of late, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was pleased with his team’s play in the game.

“The effort was phenomenal,” Kerr said during the postgame press conference. “Felt like we really deserved to win and I feel terrible for the guys that we couldn’t hang on, because the effort, the energy, the commitment…the way the guys fought. So good to have [De’Anthony Melton] back, watching him compete out there, and [Quinten Post]. It was a beautiful effort, and it’s just a shame we couldn’t finish it off.”

Kerr went on to praise Golden State’s depth, which was needed on a night like last night with players like Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler out due to injury

“We got a lot of guys who can play and I think we played 14 people tonight,” Kerr said. “So, we believe in our depth and we know that a lot of guys can help us win.”

Unfortunately, Golden State’s depth has not directly translated into the record they undoubtedly would have hoped for at this point in the season – 23 games into the young campaign.

What the Warriors will need moving forward is that depth Kerr spoke of to continue to show up on a more consistent basis, because having the majority of the offensive load fall on Curry, when he’s healthy and available to play, doesn’t appear to be a sustainable model for a franchise that has won more championships than any other franchise over the last 15 years.

Golden State’s next game is against the Cleveland Cavaliers, which marks game two of a three-game road trip for the Warriors.

Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 in Cleveland. The Warriors will then head to Chicago before heading back to the Bay Area to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves.
