After the Golden State Warriors closed out the first half of the 2025-26 season with a convincing 119-97 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, head coach Steve Kerr offered an honest assessment of where his team stands at the midway point.

Kerr Believes Warriors Are in 'Pretty Good Place'

Kerr acknowledged that while the Warriors (22-19) have left some wins on the table, he remains confident in the direction of the team as they look to climb the Western Conference standings.

"I think we're in a pretty good place," Kerr said. "We obviously have lost some games in the first half of the year that we should have won. We feel like our record should be better. But none of that matters."

The Warriors backed up their coach's words with a dominant performance against Portland, who was playing without star forward Deni Avdija due to a back injury.

Golden State led from start to finish and used a 26-point halftime advantage to cruise to the win at Chase Center.

De'Anthony Melton led the way with a season-high 23 points, continuing his hot streak as he made four consecutive games in double figures.

Jimmy Butler added 16 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Stephen Curry dished out 10 assists despite scoring just seven points in an efficient night.

Multiple Contributors Step Up

The blowout win showcased the depth that has helped Golden State find its footing in recent weeks.

The Warriors made 23 of 58 three-point shots and forced 22 turnovers, converting them into 29 points as the Blazers (19-22) struggled to find any rhythm on either end of the floor.

Golden State has been playing better basketball since late December, winning eight of their last 11 games heading into the matchup with Portland.

A major factor in that stretch has been limiting turnovers, something that plagued the team earlier in the season when they were averaging over 16 giveaways per game.

Shaedon Sharpe led Portland with 19 points, while Jrue Holiday added 12 points and eight rebounds in just his second game back from a calf injury.

The Blazers shot just 30 percent from three-point range and committed 22 turnovers in what turned into a forgettable night.

Looking Ahead

The Warriors currently sit ninth in the Western Conference as they prepare for the second half of their eight-game homestand.

With trade deadline rumors swirling around Jonathan Kuminga and the team looking to build momentum, Kerr's message is to focus on what they can control and stack wins while they have the chance.

Golden State continues their homestand Thursday against the New York Knicks, while Portland returns home to host the Atlanta Hawks.
