Three intriguing names have come up as potential Steve Kerr replacements for the Warriors.

As the Golden State Warriors' offseason continues, various rumors and reports continue to emerge about Steve Kerr's role with the organization. After 12 years at the helm as the head coach, Kerr could potentially be on the way out, pending a decision between him and the Warriors' front office, namely with owner Joe Lacob and general Manager Mike Dunleavy Jr.

The most recent reports have indicated that there won't be a concrete decision made until next week at the earliest, as sources told reporter Anthony Slater that the consideration is, "It's April. We don't need to rush."

However, even with this in mind, that doesn't prevent the flow of the NBA rumor mill, especially in this day and age. In the past week, three different names have come up as potential replacements for Kerr if he does end up parting ways with the Warriors.

Bringing Back Two Warriors' Legends

The first two options, initially reported by Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard to be on the table, are two men who have been with the Warriors for previous championships.

The first one is Mike Brown. Currently, Brown is the head coach of the New York Knicks after he replaced Tom Thibodeau this past summer. Brown has the Knicks as the 3-seed in the Eastern Conference, but there hasn't been a complete sense of trust in Brown this year, and with the Knicks trailing 1-2 in the series against the 6-seed Atlanta Hawks, the writing could be on the wall for Brown's time in the Big Apple to end quickly.

Brown was previously the associate head coach for the Warriors from 2016 to 2022, winning three NBA championships in the Bay Area before he took a head coaching job in Sacramento with the Kings, where he won Coach of the Year in 2023. Prior to his time with the Dubs, Brown was also head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2005-2010, winning Coach of the Year in 2009 with LeBron James leading the way, then spent a year as coach of the Lakers in 2011-2012 and a lone year as coach of the Cavs again in 2013-2014.

Brown hasn't necessarily proven to be a winning head coach in his previous stints, but the connection he has to the Warriors still makes him a strong candidate.

On the other hand, the second potential candidate is a legendary player: 2015 Finals MVP Andre Iguodala.

Iguodala played in the NBA for 19 seasons before retiring in 2023. He was a 1-time All-Star with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2011-12 and made the All-Defensive Team twice in his career. Since his retirement, Iggy hasn't been involved in any capacity with the NBA, outside of having his No. 9 retired by the Warriors last February.

Notably, that means Iguodala has no coaching experience. This would be an interesting hire, to be sure, if it ends up panning out.

Warriors Could Potentially Dip Into Collegiate Waters

The third option that is reportedly on the table comes from the college landscape.

Florida head coach Todd Golden won a national championship with the Gators in 2025, with the help of Warriors rookie Will Richard, in just his third season in Gainesville. This came after Golden spent 6 years at the University of San Francisco, 3 of which as the head coach, where he reportedly developed a good relationship with the Lacob family.

It is notable that Golden seemingly put a stop to these rumors when speaking to the media on Wednesday, simply saying, "I’m definitely planning on coaching the Gators" when asked about his plans for next season and not expanding any further.

Golden also signed a six-year, $40.5 million contract last May after the national championship win that made him one of the five highest-paid coaches in college basketball at the time, and though the Gators dropped out of the NCAA Tournament in the second round this year after losing to 9-seed Iowa, they were still a 1-seed and had an overall successful season.

With all of this evidence against the idea, it seems a bit more far-fetched that Golden is truly an option at this point, but it's undeniable that he could be an intriguing candidate with a different perspective in the event that he is available.
