Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has a dilemma. It is a good dilemma to have, but a problem nonetheless.

He has a very talented roster. He can go with a big starting lineup with Al Horford at center and Draymond Green at power forward. He can also go with a smaller lineup and move Green over to center and put Jimmy Butler at the power forward position.

    Hmmm. Decisions. Decisions.

Kerr said he might not have a big enough sample size to use as a measuring stick from the Wednesday night game against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Warriors squeezed out a six-point win, but the starters sat out most of the second half.

“I don’t know if we got a good enough look at that lineup to really know," Kerr said. "It should fit.”

The real question is whether Horford will get those extra minutes or not.

Aside from size and overall body mass, Horford has a solid 3-point shot and gives the Warriors more spacing on the court as the teams have to respect his outside shot.

“The first group was better than I thought,” Kerr told reporters Friday after practice. “I thought the combination was good. I thought they executed decently.”

Kerr was emphatic on Friday when he said he wants to use the same starting lineup with Horford in the middle. The regular season lineup will most likely begin with Stephen Curry and Moses Moody in the backcourt with Butler and Green at the forward positions.

“That could be a really powerful combo,” Kerr said. “I didn’t have a great sense of it after the game because I was thinking so much of our turnovers and our lack of focus at times during the first half. But looking at the tape, it was a lot better than I expected for those first seven minutes or so.”

However, for the Sunday rematch against the Lakers, it will not happen. Butler is not expected to play as he has an excused absence. Curry and Horford are also scheduled to sit out. Finally, Moody is out nursing a calf injury.

Curry knows the preseason is all about working rotations and seeing what works. He said the Warriors are working on which combinations are best for the team.

“You can tell with all the different lineups, we know that there’s still going to be a lot to work on in terms of the chemistry and just the certain combinations,” Curry said. “That’s part of the journey of training camp. But I just like the vibe and the intentionality that we’re all coming with, understanding that we need to get off to a good start. And trying to make that happen.”
