Should Warriors fans be patient with the team?

The Golden State Warriors have stayed relatively quiet in the offseason, not making any major splashes despite being heavily linked to top superstars.

The Warriors have re-signed Draymond Green, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, and De'Anthony Melton, but lost Quinten Post to an offer sheet presented by the Memphis Grizzlies.

They were in the running for LeBron James, unless you believe Steve Kerr, who said he didn't think the team was close to getting "The King." LeBron ended up signing with the Philadelphia 76ers. They were also reportedly involved in trade discussions for Jaylen Brown, who was eventually traded to the 76ers, and Anthony Davis, who remains with the Washington Wizards.

Despite all the chatter surrounding the team, they struck out in free agency and the trade market.

Stay Patient?

Marc J Spears of ESPN appeared on 95.7 The Game and told Warriors fans to stay patient.

"The best thing to do is to be patient to see what happens at the trade deadline... It’s not about today; it’s about the end of next season," he said.

The Warriors can't afford to be too patient given the age of the roster and the injury history.

They didn't get any younger in the offseason, as even their first-round pick, Yaxel Lendeborg out of Michigan, will be 24 years old in September. Curry was banged up throughout last season, Porzingis hasn't been healthy for the past two seasons, and Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody will miss extended time to start the season.

By the time the trade deadline rolls around, the Warriors could be fighting for a Play-In spot.

Being Patient

If the Warriors don't have a firm playoff spot at the trade deadline, would they even trade first-round picks for a short-term swing in hopes of it working out in the second half of the season?

The other issue is availability. Even if management thinks there is a player who boosts their status as a contender, will they be on the level of Jaylen Brown, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Anthony Davis, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Paul George, or Kevin Durant? Those were the names the Warriors have attempted to trade for or had interest in the last few seasons.

Stars change teams all the time, and you never know when a star will want out of his current situation, but they had a chance to add two stars this offseason, and now they have to hope a lot goes right and the right guy is available.

The trade deadline is a long way away, and the Warriors don't have much room for error when the season starts, given everything working against them.
