Mike Dunleavy likes the Warriors’ chances at extending Curry.

There's been a lot of doubt cast on the state of the Golden State Warriors as of late and particularly, star Steph Curry's future within the team.

With the way that the Warriors' offseason has gone, defined by inaction as the rest of the league around them has improved, there isn't much faith outside of the organization that the Warriors will be able to be back to true playoff contention anytime soon, especially not in time to bring Curry another championship before his career comes to an end.

That's led many to speculate that Curry could be looking for a way out of Golden State, with some former players even publicly calling for Curry to leave.

With Curry entering the final season of his current contract, the idea of him leaving is genuinely plausible. But he is eligible to sign a two-year contract extension later this summer, which would put all of the rumors and speculation to bed. On that front, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy is confident that the team will be able to keep Curry.

Dunleavy Is Confident

"There are two things I'm confident about with Steph. He really, really wants to win and he wants to finish his career as a Warrior," Dubleavy said (via Anthony Slater). "I don't think that changes tomorrow, August 29th, start of the season, middle of the season, end of next season. Those things are going to be consistent."

Dunleavy didn't necessarily make any bold statements about Curry possibly moving on and ultimately he is confident that the Warriors will keep him, but Dunleavy also seems to be avoiding speaking for Curry on the matter.

He also added that Curry hasn't indicated that he wants to be anywhere other than Golden State for the remainder of his career, so it seems like Warriors fans should feel confident about their franchise star giving it one last ride with the team that he's already win four championships with.

Winning With Curry Once You Extend Him

Extending Curry is just one hurdle of course. After that, the Warriors need to put themselves into a position where they can with Curry. This offseason certainly wasn't a step forward in that pursuit and should the extension actually happen, the Warriors will have to take that assurance and use it confidently move forward in building a contending team once again.

Those kind of moves are what have to come next, of course, but if Dunleavy is as confident about extending Curry and he’s said, then that confidence should be able to inform a certain level of aggressiveness moving forward.

Extending Curry should be the top priority, but being able to actually win around Curry in the final years that they secure should be just as important, and Golden State’s commitment to that principle is somewhat murkier.
