On a night when Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody were sitting on the bench in dress clothes, with top reserve Jonathan Kuminga, the Golden State Warriors were defeated 106-103 by the Los Angeles Clippers Friday evening at the Chase Center.
The visiting Clippers were also missing several of their top stars. Kawhi Leonard, James Harden and Chris Paul missed the game for Los Angeles.
Starters Al Horford and Draymond Green played the first half and into the third quarter for the Warriors. Buddy Hield poured in 11 points for the Warriors.
Golden State played an otherwise sloppy game as they committed 23 turnovers. It was that kind of game for the Warriors who averaged more than 20 turnovers in all five preseason contests.
The Warriors will have to get everyone healthy in a hurry as they open the regular season on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena.
"We definitely had a turnover problem throughout the preseason," head coach Steve Kerr said in his post-game press conference. "But I'm confident when the lights go on Tuesday our guys will be locked in. We didn't have a lot of consistent lineups in the preseason. We had a lot of mix and match lineups, but that's not an excuse for the careless (turnovers)."
Stephen Curry started along with Horford and Green. He scored 20 points in the loss. Will Richard and Brandin Podziemski rounded out the starting lineup.
Podziemski did not last long initially as he left after 2:21 went by in the first quarter as he lost his footing in transition and took a nasty fall to the floor. He was leading the fastbreak and collided with a defender which sent him reeling to the ground.
Podziemski walked gingerly to the locker room and favored his left leg. The Warriors said he suffered a hip contusion, but he returned to the floor later in the quarter and re-entered the lineup.
The Warriors played 11 players Friday as Kerr tried to mix and match different rotations without key personnel.
