Yaxel Lendeborg has impressed his team owner.
When the Golden State Warriors went into the 2026 NBA Draft, one of the most stacked drafts in recent memory, with the coveted 11th-overall pick, they had a wealth of options ahead of them.
With that pick, they took what seemed like a gamble by selecting 24-year-old Yaxel Lendeborg out of Michigan to lead the next generation of Warriors. Picking one of the oldest available rookies to join one of the oldest rosters in the NBA was a choice with a certain amount of risk, but the Warriors were intentional with that choice.
They needed their rookie, whomever they picked, to step right away and Lendeborg's age and experience fit that bill.

Since then, the Warriors have been thoroughly vindicated. Lendeborg stepped into a starting role right away and has thrived in it, standing out as one of the most impressive rookies in the NBA so far. He's averaging 21 points per game, second among all rookies, on 49.2% shooting from the field while adding 7.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
In just nine games, Lendeborg has squared off against stars like Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic and held his own. The Warriors gamble has safely paid off and team owner Joe Lacob is thrilled about it.

He doesn't have any weaknesses," Lacob said during an interview with 95.7 The Game (via Underdog NBA).
Big Praise from Lacob
Hitting on Lendeborg is huge for the Warriors, who haven't had the most luck in the draft the last few seasons. As the team grows progressively older and the end of the Steph Curry and Draymond Green era in Golden State looms overhead, building up the next generation of Golden State stars is a crucial exercise.

Lacob's support of Lendeborg says a lot, especially after the controversy that arose when Lacob was spotted seemingly arguing with general manager Mike Dunleavy in the draft room after Lendeborg was selected. But if there was any doubt in Lacob's mind before, it's been firmly dispelled by what he's seen with his own eyes these first few games.

Darren Yamashita-Imagn ImagesThere's still a lot more work to be done and a lot more for Lendeborg to both prove and accomplish, but the Warriors haven't had a bright young players like this in a long time and in a period of change for the Golden State, Lendeborg has made it feel like the future is on the Warriors' side.
