The Warriors made a couple strategic decisions on the front end of the back-to-back.

After getting a couple of days off to enjoy the holidays, the Golden State Warriors now look to extend their three-game winning streak, starting with a back-to-back on the road. They're first tasked with knocking off the Toronto Raptors across the border on Sunday afternoon before they head down to Brooklyn to play the Nets on Monday evening.

With it being the front end of a back-to-back, the Warriors need to play it smart in determining which players they decide to play in certain games. Their injury report ahead of the Raptors game shed light on the decisions Steve Kerr ultimately made.

Warriors Play Al Horford, Sit De'Anthony Melton

The two primary players unable to play back-to-backs this year are Al Horford and De'Anthony Melton. It was already determined that Horford wouldn't play both games due to a combination of his age and the various injuries he's already been dealing with this season. On the other hand, Melton's long recovery from the ACL tear he suffered last season makes it unlikely that the Warriors will have him play both games for the foreseeable future.

Thus, it seems that Kerr decided to split their contributions between the two games. The injury report revealed an absence of Horford, indicating he would play against the Raptors and sit out versus the Nets, while Melton was listed as out for injury management. Unless there's a new issue or soreness that Melton needs to tend to, it seems expected that he'll replace Horford in the rotation on Monday.

The rest of the injury report was also illuminating, particularly for Seth Curry. The report officially lists it as a left sciatic nerve irritation issue, finally revealing the injury that's been plaguing Curry since he joined the team a few weeks ago.

Additionally, reports came out following the injury report that Curry had an MRI on his lower back/pelvis that confirmed this issue, and that he would be reevaluated in two weeks. Though the injury isn't ideal, having a timeline offers much more clarity on Curry's situation.

Trayce Jackson-Davis was also listed as questionable with an illness, and Brandin Podziemski is probable with a left ab contusion.

Raptors Upgrade RJ Barrett, Rule Out Jakob Poeltl

On the Raptors' side, they'll be down one of their starters, but may see the return of another.

Jakob Poeltl was ruled out with a lower back strain. This will be the center's third-straight missed game and the 5th in his last 6. Poeltl's stats have been down across the board this year from last, but he still provides a stout presence on the interior. Sandro Manukelashvili will likely continue to start in his absence.

Rookie Collin Murray-Boyles is also set to miss his second-straight game with an illness. The No. 9 pick has been a reliable option off the bench for the Raptors this year.

However, the good news for the Raptors is that RJ Barrett was upgraded to questionable. The wing has missed the last 15 games with a right knee sprain he suffered before Thanksgiving, but could finally make his return tonight. Barrett was averaging nearly 20 points per game before his injury and would be another prominent scorer the Warriors would have to deal with if he is ready to go.

Even if Barrett remains out or is on a minutes restriction, the Warriors will have their hands full dealing with the likes of Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram, and more from this well-rounded Raptors offense.
