Warriors Remain Shorthanded On Saturday vs Lakers cover image

The Golden State Warriors will remain shorthanded on Saturday against the Los Angeles Lakers

Two of the most popular teams in North American sports matchup on Saturday night, with the Los Angeles Lakers playing host to the Golden State Warriors. Both teams are led by an all-time great, hoping to help them to one final NBA title before their career is all said and done.

For the Warriors, it's unclear how much is left, if any, of their championship window. However, the team did go out and acquire Atlanta Hawks center Kristaps Porzingis via trade, improving the team with another star. Heading into Saturday night's contest, though, they are set to be without several key players yet again.

Warriors Injury Report

The Warriors will be without three of their top players on Saturday, with Steph Curry (patellofemoral), Jimmy Butler (ACL), and Kristaps Porzingis (Achilles) all listed as OUT.

While Butler has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, Curry will miss his third-straight game due to injury, and newcomer Porzingis hasn't played since January 7th. Once Curry and Porzingis get on the floor together, Warriors fans will be excited to see how the duo plays with one another, as both can stretch the floor well.

LJ Cryer (hamstring) and Seth Curry (sciatic nerve) are listed as OUT as well, with guard Brandin Podziemski being listed as PROBABLE due to illness. Podziemski played just 12 minutes off the bench for Golden State in their recent win over the Phoenix Suns, so they'll hope he can look better if he's able to suit up Saturday.

All of these injuries are definitely discouraging for the Warriors, but they were without the same five players against the Suns when they made an epic comeback in the fourth quarter for a major win.

Lakers Injury Report

As for the Lakers, their injury report is much shorter, but it has one key name listed.

Lakers superstar guard Luka Doncic is listed as OUT due to a left hamstring strain, after suffering an injury in their February 5th contest against the Philadelphia 76ers. It'll be Doncic's first absence since January 17th, when the Lakers lost to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Adou Thiero remains OUT due to a right MCL sprain, and recent trade acquisition Luke Kennard is QUESTIONABLE with the trade pending.

Game Preview

The Warriors will be lacking star power on Saturday, facing a Lakers team led by LeBron James and Austin Reaves. With Reaves coming off a 35-point performance and LeBron set to appear in his 22nd All-Star game, the Warriors will need a full team effort to overcome the Lakers.

Golden State holds a 1-0 regular-season series advantage, as they'll look to extend that lead to 2-0 with tip-off set for 8:30 p.m. EST at the Crypto.com Arena.
