After returning home from a preseason 118-111 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, the Golden State Warriors announced that they waived Marques Bolden and Taevion Kinsey. The two players were signed for training camp and did not see many minutes in preseason competition.
Warriors PR issued a statement announcing the moves Wednesday afternoon.
Bolden was like any typical Duke player. He was hoping to go from highly-touted recruit to dominant freshman. He then wanted to be one-and-done and leave for the NBA as a potential first-round pick.
It did not work out that way.
He ended up staying with the Blue Devils for three seasons, finally garnering some quality minutes during his junior season. He then entered the NBA Draft a year early and went undrafted in 2019.
Bolden has gone from team hang his clothes and call it home. He signed various two-way and Exhibit 10 contracts. He did play nine games for the Charlotte Hornets during the 2023-2024 season. He also made two starts.
He had a modicum of success in the G League, but not enough to garner attention from an NBA team to promote him to the big club.
Kinsey was a five-year player for Marshall, starting 130 games. During his final season he averaged 22.1 points. He also added 5.4 assists and 4.9 rebounds. However, despite his final year success, he went undrafted and went on to sign an Exhibit 10 deal with the Utah Jazz in 2023.
He has bounced around the Jazz's G League affiliate for two seasons.
Bolden and Kinsey will likely both head back to the G League and play for Golden State's Santa Cruz entry. The Warriors brass will look to see if they the two players can develop and ultimately compete for a spot in Golden State next season.
