The Warriors have had a tough start to the year.
The Golden State Warriors came into the 2026-2027 regular season with a chip on their shoulder as they looked to be more competitive. The Warriors knew they were going to be without Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody for a significant amount of time, but they had faith that their current core could lead them to a postseason appearance.
Now, with the 0-3 start they're on, it's time for head coach Steve Kerr and this coaching staff to reassess how they approach the rest of the season.
One of the main things to point out in the Warriors' struggles is their lack of presence on the interior. This was a team that was expected to have center Kristaps Porzingis as their starter throughout the season, but he's currently dealing with health issues that could keep him away from basketball for good, as he's considering retirement.

Moving forward, this could be a weakness that opposing teams may look to exploit. Overall, the frontcourt lacks size, and they started Gui Santos and Graham Ike in the last game, two players who are not true centers.
Another element to point out is the injuries. In the last game, the Warriors were without Stephen Curry, Brandin Podziemski, and Draymond Green. They are three players who will be key to the success of this team, but the Warriors lack the depth to compete without them.
Golden State will need their second unit to raise their level of play if they want to stay in the mix for a playoff spot later in the season. They will get a big boost once Butler and Moody come back, but if they're too far down in the Western Conference standings, the effort may not be enough to try and make a run late in the season.
Rick Scuteri-Imagn ImagesThe third takeaway from the Warriors' slow start is that it's clear the front office did not make the right moves in the offseason to get better. Going back to their second unit, their depth issue is something that could have been fixed, especially with Steph Curry signing a team-friendly extension in the offseason.
Players like Collin Sexton and Anfernee Simons were available on the market and could have helped this team on the scoring front, but they stayed put with who they have. Now, they're getting inconsistent play from some of their players, and they are not in a position to beat some of the top teams in the West.
