Jimmy Butler says he feels amazing outside of some knee discomfort and expressed gratitude for playing alongside Stephen Curry entering Year 16.

Jimmy Butler is entering his 16th NBA season with appreciation for his situation, even as his surgically repaired knee remains part of the conversation.

The Golden State Warriors forward offered an upbeat assessment when asked how he feels heading into another season. Butler acknowledged some discomfort but spoke positively about his career, his teammates and the organization he now represents.

“Great! My knee aches a little bit, but outside of that, I feel amazing,” Butler said on NBC Sports.

For Golden State, those comments offer encouragement from a player whose return will be important to the team’s ambitions. They also reflect Butler’s enthusiasm for continuing his career alongside Stephen Curry after an injury interrupted their partnership last season.

Butler Praises Curry and Golden State

Butler’s answer went beyond his physical condition. He reflected on the organizations and accomplished teammates he has played with before offering particularly strong praise for Curry and the Warriors.

“I'm super blessed to be able to play for some amazing organizations with some Hall of Fame players and I can say, I am probably with the greatest player that I have ever played with right now in this team for the greatest organization, so 16 years in and to end up over here with the Warriors, couldn't ask for a better story.”

The statement illustrates how positively Butler views his current situation. Despite the interruption caused by his injury, he sounds appreciative of the opportunity to share the court with Curry.

Their partnership gives Golden State different ways to generate offense. Curry’s shooting and movement demand attention away from the ball, while Butler can attack openings, initiate possessions and create opportunities for teammates.

My view is that Butler’s decision-making is especially valuable when opponents commit extra defenders to Curry. Golden State benefits from having another experienced player who can recognize the advantage and determine whether to score or move the ball.

His Return Remains Important

Butler averaged 20 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.4 steals last season, shooting 51.9% from the field and 37.6% from 3-point range.

That production shows the range of contributions Golden State must replace while he continues recovering from his ACL injury. His absence affects scoring, playmaking and the team’s options on defense.

The Warriors are hoping to have Butler back early in 2027, according to reports on his recovery. His positive assessment doesn't set a return date, and the team still must prepare for the opening portion of the schedule without him.

That makes the preseason important for identifying dependable contributors around Curry. Golden State needs players who can finish opportunities, keep possessions organized and handle their defensive responsibilities.

The question is whether those players can provide consistent production over an extended stretch. Larger roles offer opportunities, but the Warriors need that experience to translate into useful minutes once the regular season begins.

Butler’s enthusiasm is encouraging. Golden State’s immediate task is building a group capable of staying competitive until he can turn that optimism into contributions on the court.
