One of the three Washington Wizards is walking out the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California with the championship from Friday night's 2026 Castrol Rising Stars game.
Kyshawn George and Team Vince finished the four-team tournament with a title to close out day one of NBA All Star weekend.
All three Wizards would take the floor together in game two of the event with George suiting up for the team coached by Vince Carter, while Bub Carrington and Tre Johnson suited up in a one and done game for head coach Tracy McGrady.
George would finish with four points, three rebounds and an assist in game one, shooting 50% from the field in just under ten minutes of action, but there was a little bit of Wizard-on-Wizard action with George on the receiving end. It would come from none other than Tre Johnson, who pulled up for a deep, contested three in transition in George's face - and subtly let him know afterward.
"He tried to post me up at first. I didn't like that," George told Chase Hughes of Monumental Sports. "I've been in the weight room since [my] injury. Posting me up [is] not going to work on me anymore."
Johnson would finish with eight points off 3-of-8 shooting from the field including a pair of threes and rebounds in over ten minutes of action, good enough for second on the team in scoring behind Cavaliers forward Jaylon Tyson. Bub Carrington, who replaced Alex Sarr in the event, finished with just two points, three assists and one rebound in nearly eight minutes of action, leading Johnson to tease him for his lack of scoring in a target score-based event.
George would follow it up with two points, three rebounds including a pair on offense and four assists in a 41-36 win over Team Melo. One of his assists included a near-half court pass to Carter Bryant of the Spurs, giving George a chance to showcase his expanded versatility in a more lax All Star setting.
Washington also had a chance to flash its arguably biggest emerging young star until Alex Sarr was sidelined for the next two weeks with a hamstring injury, keeping him away from a national audience and chance to flourish alongside Tre Johnson, but the trio of Wizards were able to show enough to draw praise from the commentators.
"They made the trade for Trae Young, Anthony Davis for the future, and it feels like as everything comes together, next year and beyond, that’s a team that has a chance to do some major danger in the eastern conference,” play by play commentator Noah Eagle said.
This marked the second straight year that the Wizards had three players suit up in the Rising Stars game.
Washington will not have any other players make appearances the rest of All Star weekend, giving a team with multiple injuries a chance at additional time to rest - including new trade acquisition and veteran Anthony Davis, who has an important visit with the team over the break, per general manager Will Dawkins.
Washington will return to action next Thursday, Feb. 19 in the first of two against the Indiana Pacers over as many days.
