The Washington Wizards loss cements the worst record in the NBA to end the 2025-26 season.
The Washington Wizards closed the home portion of the 2025-26 regular season the same way it opened - with a loss.
The Miami Heat took the fourth and final matchup of the season between the two teams with a 140-117 loss inside Capital One Arena on Friday night.
With the loss, the Wizards now end the 2025-26 regular season just 11-30 inside Capital One Arena along the worst record in the NBA, clinching a top five pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Bub Carrington led the way with his second 30-point game of the season, doing so while tying a season-high six made threes on just seven attempts along with 11-of-15 shooting from the field. Bilal Coulibaly added 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting in just 22 minutes, while Will Riley added 16 points in 28 minutes. Both Julian Reese and Anthony Gill added ten points each while Sharife Cooper added 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting, along with seven assists, in 20 minutes.
Miami grabbed onto a double digit lead to end the first quarter before growing that into a near 20-point first half lead, but Bilal Coulibaly proved to be the early spark for Washington on both ends of the floor, highlighted by a block on Jaime Jaquez Jr. at the rim before finishing with a dunk in transition.
Coulibaly registered 19 points through the first half, recording a new career high for points in a half, while Bub Carrington drained his 300th career three to join LaMelo Ball, Luka Doncic, Anthony Edwards and Jalen Green as the only players to reach the feat prior to his 21st birthday.
The third quarter proved to be the Bub Carrington and Bilal Coulibaly as Carrington already tied a season-high with six made threes on seven attempts midway through the third quarter. helping the Wizards cut the deficit to as little as 12 points.
Yet Washington missed a pair of chances to cut it to a single digit deficit game, first a free three by Leaky Black followed by a missed free throw by Anthony Gill to miss out on an and-one opportunity. The Heat made them pay with a quick three from Bad Adebayo, pushing the deficit back near 20 points.
Now at 17-64 overall, the Wizards will now head into the much welcomed regular season finale when they take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday, April 12 with tipoff set for 6 PM.
