The Washington Wizards were no match for the New York Knicks on Tuesday night, as they find themselves back in the loss column after a lopsided 132-101 defeat at Capital One Arena.
In the midst of what was a wild day around the association, Washington once again finds themselves at the bottom of the barrel, as they are one game behind the Indiana Pacers of having the worst record in the Eastern Conference.
Many understood that tonight's matchup had the possibility of getting ugly for Washington, as they were without rookie guard Tre Johnson who has provided a much needed spark offensively for this young group.
New York was simply too overwhelming for Washington, as they grew a lead as large as 41 points in the fourth quarter.
New York's core five of Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby and Josh Hart led the way to victory tonight.
Bridges had a game high of 23 points on 8/10 FG, Brunson with 21 points, Towns scored 19 and hauled in 14 rebounds, Anunoby poured in 19 of his own and Hart stuffed the stat sheet with four points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
New York now leads Washington 2-0 in the season series with two games remaining between the two for Washington to get even.
Although tonight's performances was bleak, Washington continues to prioritize the development of their youth, with Will Riley impressing once again tonight.
Riley led Washington with 17 points on 5-on-11 FG and knocking down two three pointers. Riley's ability to attack downhill and use his length frame to make tough shots has been impressive. The rookie also hauled in six rebounds, displaying his ability to be a threat on the glass.
Second year guard AJ Johnson had another promising night, as he scored 14 points on 4/8 FG in only 24 minutes. Johnson is coming off a 17 point performance against the Sacramento Kings, but struggled to find success as a playmaker as he has seven turnovers to only four assists. However, Johnson was a more efficient playmaker tonight, as he dished out four assists while not committing a single turnover.
Seeing Riley and Johnson thrive once again tonight was encouraging, considering that the core of Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Bub Carrington and Bilal Coulibaly were quiet tonight.
Washington will be back in action on at 7:00 PM ET, on Thursday where they will travel to take on the top seeded Detroit Pistons. Detroit is also fresh off a trade involving three teams on Tuesday after dealing Jaden Ivey to the Chicago Bulls while the Pistons added Kevin Huerter, Dario Saric and a first-round protected swap with the Timberwolves.
