Young's quad contusion and back irritation sideline him indefinitely. His promising five-game Wizards spark ends, leaving his season return uncertain.

Trae Young reinjured his right quadriceps, sustaining a contusion during the third quarter of the game against Golden State on March 16, the team announced.

The Wizards added that  "related imaging, due to ongoing back pain, confirmed lower back irritation.” Young's injury will be treated conservatively, and updates will be provided when available, the Wizards said.

With 13 games remaining for the Wizards, Young's return this season appears unlikely, but he hasn't been ruled out for the season. Young sustained the injuries when he collided with Golden State's Will Richard on Monday. Young asked to come out of the game and went to the locker room, head coach Brian Keefe said.

Young has played in 5 games since a long-hiatus out previously, stemming back to before his trade in January. His five contests have been a nice spark for the Wizards. The new point guard averaged 15.2 points, 6.2 assists, and 3 rebounds in these games.

His ability to break down the defense and facilitate impressed, as he consistently put pressure on the rim and found open teammates.

If this was it for his audition to the team, it was a fairly good one for Young. General manager Will Dawkins told The Sports Junkies he thought it was "likely" Young and Anthony Davis both played at some point this year, but that doesn't appear likely at this point.

Davis was re-evaluated last Thursday in Los Angeles, but it was determined that the volar plate tissue in his left hand has not yet fully healed, the Wizards announced yesterday. The team added that he'll be re-evaluated at the end of the month.  By that time, Washington will have only seven games remaining on its schedule. It seems unlikely he makes his Wizards debut this season.

Davis has not played since January, when he suffered ligament damage in his left hand. Davis, 32, has been back and forth with the team and with his doctors elsewhere. He did not have surgery on his left hand.

The Wizards have lost 14 straight games and currently own the second-worst record in the league. A bottom-four finish guarantees they'll avoid potentially having their pick conveyed to the New York Knicks. The Wizards move to a five-game lead over Utah in the tank standings, who sits fifth, if they lose to the Thunder today.
