The Washington Wizards have filled the 15th and final roster spot after signing veteran forward Anthony Gill on Tuesday evening
After months of waiting and debating, the Washington Wizards have filled the final roster spot.
The team announced on Tuesday afternoon that veteran forward Anthony Gill has re-signed with the team to fill the 15th spot on the 2026-27 roster.
The Charlotte, North Carolina native returns to the organization after spending all six NBA seasons with the Wizards organization where he has averaged 3.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists across 11 minutes. Gill also started in 23 games across his 285 career appearances with the organization.
Eight of his 23 career starts materialized during the 2025-26 regular season when he averaged 5.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.6 steals per game across 17.3 minutes -- all notching new career highs. Gill also made 55 appearances with the team, but his impact has been felt off the court arguably more than it has been on.
Gill was routinely praised by head coach Brian Keefe and his teammates during the 2025-26 regular season where the veteran has been a steady locker room presence. Gill has also earned the E.B. Henderson Award from the team twice during his career for his charity work in the area.
While the Wizards were tied to other veterans like Russell Westbrook and DeMar DeRozan at points during free agency, whether a reunion between Gill and the Wizards made sense became a growing question mark for the Wizards as the free agent market winded down across the league. With the rotation largely set with the pieces already in the building, the addition of Gill adds to the commitment to chemistry both on and off the floor as the Wizards look to transition to becoming a playoff contender beginning in 2026-27.
Gill also becomes the latest addition to the frontcourt after the team acquired Deandre Ayton from the Los Angeles Lakers to address the backup center position. Washington also sent both second round picks to the Orlando Magic to add Felix Okpara on day two of the 2026 NBA Draft, while the arrival of Anthony Davis in Washington has been one of the most anticipated preseason storylines along with the arrival of AJ Dybantsa, the top overall pick.
The Wizards have not yet announced a date for the start of training camp, the team is set to begin the preseason schedule on Oct. 8 when they travel to New York to face the Knicks before then hosting the Milwaukee Bucks for the regular season opener on Oct. 21.
