The Washington Wizards announced center Alex Sarr will miss "approximately two weeks" due to a hamstring injury

Locked On Wizards

With All Star weekend officially here, one Washington Wizard is expected to remain sidelined through the midseason break after the team announced an updated timeline on Thursday morning.

The Wizards announced on Thursday morning that forward/center Alex Sarr suffered a hamstring injury that will keep him sidelined through All Star Weekend and force him to miss the upcoming All-Star break. The team also announced that Sarr's recovery time is roughly two weeks.

Sarr has missed two of the last four games with the hamstring injury, giving the star center a chance to get back to full strength.

The NBA announced hours later that Wizards guard Bub Carrington will serve as one of two injury replacements, giving the team a third player in the upcoming game.

Heading into the midseason break, Sarr ranks tied with Evan Mobley for second in the league averaging two blocks per game, trailing only Victor Wembanyama (2.7).

"His ability to be able to execute multiple coverages throughout the game. We had him up high on the pick and roll early to start the game, we had him switching on guards and he’s just roaming around there covering every drive into the paint," head coach Brian Keefe said last month. "That’s a unique player"

If Sarr is able to team up with new Wizard, Anthony Davis, in the front court following the All Star break is the next question beyond Sarr's recovery after general manager Will Dawkins expressed confidence and noting it's "highly likely" the newest addition being able to play this season alongside Trae Young and the rest of the young core.

"That's the goal. We want to see our guys together so we can build camaraderie and build some continuity towards the end of the season," Dawkins said following the trade.

In his second season with the organization, Sarr is also averaging 17.2 points and 7.8 rebounds on 49.6% shooting, all increases from last year after shooting 39.4% from the field as a rookie.

With Sarr now sidelined, a pair of players will represent the Wizards in the upcoming Rising Stars game with both Kyshawn George and Tre Johnson both named to the upcoming game with Johnson on Team T-Mac and George on Team Vince.

Meanwhile, Washington dropped its third consecutive game on Wednesday night after falling by 25 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers, now heading into the All Star break at 14-39 overall and with the second-best odds to land the top overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Washington will return to action next Thursday, Feb. 19 in the first of a back-to-back against the Indiana Pacers inside Capital One Arena.
