The Washington Wizards will return to action on Tuesday night to take on the Orlando Magic, but they will also do so with one less player available.
Keshon Gilbert is now set to head to a divisional rival after the reports on Tuesday morning surfaced that the Atlanta Hawks are signing rookie point guard Keshon Gilbert to a two-way contract.
Gilbert initially joined the organization after going undrafted in last year's drafted out of Iowa State before inking an Exhibit 10 deal with the Washington Wizards, giving him a chance to also play for Washington's G League affiliate, the Capital City Go Go.
Gilbert has only appeared in three games for the Wizards, all three in February including most recently on Feb. 11 when he posted two points, two steals and one rebound in six minutes against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Feb. 11. Gilbert's biggest share of playing time came on Feb. 7 against the Brooklyn Nets when he posted four points, three blocks, three rebounds and two assists in 29 minutes. He followed it up with one block, one assist and one rebound in 13 minutes against the Miami Heat on Feb. 8.
Gilbert was also one of three Wizards signed to two-way deals alongside Sharife Cooper and Julian Reese, who made his NBA debut on Monday night's loss against the Houston Rockets to become the first Wizards rookie to start in his NBA debut in a non-season opener since at least the ABA-NBA merger in 1976-77, according to Wizards PR.
The rookie guard has made his mark with the Go-Go in 2025-26 where he is averaging 16.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 49.8% though just 17.4% from three in nearly 30 minutes per game and 23 appearances.
The good news is that Gilbert will not suit up against his former team the rest of the season after Atlanta and Washington wrapped up their season series last week after the Hawks took both matchups in Atlanta by a combined 51 points.
Gilbert now heads to Atlanta to fill the Hawks' final vacant two-way slot after the team promoted Caleb Houstan to a standard contract earlier this month, making the move possible. Gilbert could become available for Atlanta as early as tonight with general manager Will Dawkins now able to turn back to the G League to fill the 18th roster spot with Washington is set to retune to action on Tuesday night against the Orlando Magic.
