Boasting elite IQ and a "sure thing" pedigree, Duke’s National Player of the Year offers the Wizards a high-floor prospect capable of anchoring a dominant modern frontcourt.
When you have the first overall pick in the NBA Draft, the goal is to select a franchise altering talent that can turn your team into a contender.
The possibility of the Washington Wizards selecting a franchise altering talent with the first pick in this years' class is high, as AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson are seen as "generational" talents.
However, Washington has the opportunity to select a player with an extremely high floor who could help turn them into a playoff team this upcoming season. That player being none other than Duke's Cameron Boozer, son of former NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer.

School: Duke
Position: PF/C
2025-26 Statistics: 22.5 PPG, 10.2 RPG, 4.1 APG, 55.6 FG%, 39.1 3PT
As a freshman at Duke, Boozer was the best player in all of college basketball winning National Player of the Year honors, along with the Pete Newell Big Man Award, Karl Malone Award, Lute Olson Award, National Freshman of the Year, ACC Player of the Year, ACC Rookie of the Year, ACC Tournament MVP and First-Team All ACC.
There's no denying Boozer's greatness as a collegiate athlete, but does his skillset translate to the NBA? The answer is yes.
Standing at 6'8" with good length, exceptional ball skills and an extremely strong frame, Boozer has the physicality and skill to be a high impact player in the NBA for years to come. While Boozer is set to turn 19 in July, he plays the game like he's a ten year veteran.
Boozer is the ideal modern day power forward due to his elite rebounding, defensive versatility, interior scoring and IQ. Additionally, Boozer can put the ball in the basket with the best of them, as he can score with his back to the basket or facing up.
Washington will have the opportunity to pair Boozer alongside Alex Sarr for the foreseeable future, to where they could become one of the best front court tandems in the association. Boozer would be a perfect fit alongside Sarr, as Boozer is effective in the paint due to his soft, Jokic-esq touch. Additionally, Boozer possesses elite footwork and the ability to finish with either hand.
Defensively, Boozer's high basketball IQ is apparent as he can play passing lanes, communicate with teammates, and switch onto smaller or bigger defenders. While Boozer doesn't bring high level rim protection, his defensive versatility, anticipation, strength and rebounding is an ideal fit in Washington's front court.
Boozer's main concerns are his athleticism, rim protection, and offensive identity. With that being said, these limitations didn't handicap Boozer in college and the expectation in the NBA is that he's the most sure thing prospect in the draft.

However, the question remains whether or not Washington will shock the world and select Boozer number one overall.
