Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson may be headed to one particular NFL team.
Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson is one of the most polarizing prospects in this year's NFL Draft class.
Earlier in the 2025 college football season, Simpson was viewed as a potential top-five pick, but his stock dropped considerably as the year progressed thanks to a shaky second half.
Injuries certainly played a role in Simpson's second-half slide, but there are those who also wonder if he is enough top-level talent to be a starting quarterback in the pros.
Nevertheless, Simpson is still generating some first-round buzz, and one team that could potentially nab him on Day 1 is the Cleveland Browns.
The Browns own a pair of first-round picks at Nos. 6 and 24, and Simpson appears to be a realistic possibility with the latter selection.
Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry spoke about Simpson during his pre-draft press conference this week, and based on his comments, it seems like the Browns are strongly considering the University of Alabama product.

And he did a great job maximizing it. So, we’ve really enjoyed our time with Ty.”
Simpson spent four years with the Crimson Tide but did not get the chance to start until 2025, when he threw for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 64.5 percent of his passes.
As for what the Browns would do with Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel if they did, in fact, nab Simpson? Berry played it coy.
“I’d say I don’t love dealing in hypotheticals,” Berry said. “So, I guess I’d say this, if we add a quarterback, we have a lot of love for the quarterbacks that are in the room, that’s probably the first thing. So that decision would be made independently of anything that we add to the room.”
That certainly sounds like an executive who is absolutely weighing the possibility of drafting Simpson, and if there is any team in the first round who might need to pull the trigger, it's Cleveland.
The New York Jets could also comprise a potential landing spot for Simpson, as they, too, own a couple of first-round picks at Nos. 2 and 16, plus the top pick of Round 2 (as well as the 44th overall selection).
But if Berry really likes Simpson as much as he indicated, Simpson might not make it past the Browns at No. 24.
