Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson has decided to enter the NFL Draft, a decision that has been rather heavily scrutinized due to his shaky second half of 2025.
But with the quarterback class being so thin this year, it certainly makes sense for Simpson to head to the pros, especially considering that Alabama seems ready to roll with either Keelon Russell or Austin Mack under center next season.
The question, though, is whether or not Simpson will be a first-round draft pick.
Indiana's Fernando Mendoza and Oregon's Dante Moore (assuming he declares) are the consensus top two quarterbacks in this year's class. Yes, even with Moore's subpar showing in the CFP.
Simpson seems rather far behind, so is it possible that the 23-year-old could slip to Day 2?
Well, Simpson's father, UT-Martin head coach Jason Simpson, has revealed that he and his son spoke with some NFL general managers, and they all told them that Simpson was a first-rounder.
“Nobody said second round,” Jason Simpson told ESPN.

Remember: Jaxson Dart — who could very well win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award — was selected by the New York Giants with the 25th overall selection last April.
While Simpson would obviously still be a first-rounder regardless if he fell that far, it would certainly have a significant impact on how much money he makes on his NFL rookie contract, which is a big reason why more and more players are opting to stay in school an extra year in this new NIL era.
That being said, as I stated earlier, Simpson would be taking a massive risk if he decided to head back to college for 2026. How did that work out for Carson Beck, Cade Klubnik and Garrett Nussmeier? Simpson would also have to transfer, which could get ugly.
Next year's draft class will feature names like Julian Sayin and Arch Manning, so Simpson would have almost no chance of being the top quarterback available in 2027, either.
He might as well just head into the draft this spring when he is generally viewed as the third-best signal-caller on the board.
